New look Thames revealed!

Well, I've scoured this forum and can't find it mentioned anywhere.

Thames has a new look, oh hang on, ITV has just gone to a news flash as I am typing this. I'm sure you'll hear more about it.

But what do you think of the new Thames logo?

Where is it? Can you post it for us please?

(Or describe it!)

I saw the new Thames last night (Sat 6 Oct). I'll try to describe it. Please allow for the fact I only saw it very briefly! - I think it was after Pop Idol (?).

There's no picture of any description, it's just the word THAMES written in a very plain font (arial or gil sans or some such thing). It's all in capital letters, which are white and 2-dimensional.

The background looks a bit like water with waves (or scrumpled up silky material). It's a bit like the purple background of the 1990s silver/metallic Scottish TV thistle - only it's not purple, it's blue (a similar shade of blue to the background of TV Home. Obviously meant to represent the river!

The word THAMES has a reflection beneath it, which is translucent.

I didn't notice any mention of a Pearson Television company - but I did only see it briefly...

it's on the end of Pop Idol which is on now, but I'll describe it anyway and post it later!

The production slide is a river background, with THAMES written on it.

The THAMES is mirrored beneath itself, obviously harking back to the old mirror ident.

It's interesting to compare this new logo with the Thames (1959-60) ones created by Billy Hicks and featured on APFS Presents.  The similarity of the design and even the font is uncanny!

Why is Thames now a Fremantle Media company or whatever it says? (look closely)

Why is it not a Pearson Television company ? What has happened? Has Thames changed hands or has something about Pearson changed (so that they are now called Fremantle)?

Pearson TV was owned by what became FreemantleMedia. Pearson TV has now been changed to Thames Television, so whereas before Thames was just a brand of Pearson, it is now a company in its own right! Hence (c) Thames Television Productions 2001.

Before it would have been (c) Pearson Television 2001.

So, in other words, Pearson TV is dead. Long live Thames.

The London brand was just too powerful to be replaced!

Yeah basically what happened, is Pearson changed their name to Freemantle(why, oh why) and decided that Thames should be fully reintroduced to the UK. All they need to do now is buy Carlton!

They need to breing back the skyline and that fanfare (daa daa daa daa do do do dooo)

Endcaps are mute, that's why there's no fanfare. Will somebody submit a mock ident for the new look Thames to APFS Presents? And maybe TV Ark's Just for Fun will have one on?
