Idents are nice, SD DOG's OK, but they've completely ruined the Sky One HD DOG! It used to be a tiny, neat little logo making full use of the HD resolution, sitting right in the very corner of the screen (no 4:3 safe area) but now it's exactly the same as the SD DOG but with "HD" at the end.

After watching them, they seemed very "themed" and not like a new batch of idents. I understand they aren't themed, though.

Slightly unrelated but isn't SKY THREE leaving freeview in the near future?

Yes, along with the other Sky channels of Freeview, as they are being replaced with the not-free Sky Picnic service.

Am I not right in thinking that this is subject to Ofcom approval first? And that looks unlikely?

I hope it's unlikely...

The idents look much better then the previous crap, at least its an effort in the cgi graphics arena, seems to be so rare to see anything 3D, its always live action idents or bouncing goldenballs.

These aren't my caps, these are posted with apologies to whoever took them, but I just wanted to show those of you without HD how they've doubled the DOG in size and pushed it towards the middle of the screen.

After:

To be honest, those pictures don't do it justice, it's so much more noticeable and in the way now than it used to be.

Its 2.5 times bigger then the previous one, ah I'm glad I haven't got Sky HD! Cool

Well, I've finally got clean versions of the 3 Sky Entertainment channels now if anyone wants so see them.

They are not all the same . Not just different colours rendered on identical images. They seem to be from the bits of the "O" for each channel's logo, although admittedly very similar (but that's the idea).

I think it's nice that BSkyB have gone back to very nice CGI idents. I like these. Not quite understanding the "fading v/o of US shows at the beginning of One & Three. Perhaps Two does the same in one of theirs, but not captured that yet. I bet Sky One's looks great on HD.

Here we are (I picked a random cap from each sequence as a picture to show the difference between each channel):

It tooks me ages to do that! I ended up on the phone to ********* VirginMedia for ages. I hate them! I wanna go back to AOL! Rolling Eyes

I do quite like them, though I think if you watched the Sky channels quite regularly (which I don't at all), you'd probably get bored of them pretty quick.

Is annoying though having that "skyone.co.uk" strapped on the Sky Three breakbumper - can't they just use sky.com instead?

Also last night caught a simple but nice cross channel promotion saying what's on each channel. Not seen any promos though yet.

So far I've seen one promo in use for Sky One with the new promo presentation. When the ident is showing HD or Anytime markers, the logo moves the right of the screen. Also, I've seen the URL on Sky One's breakbumper change to the show it is airing, for example last night it was skyone.co.uk/roadwars.

They've moved the Sky 1 and 2 DOGs out of the safe zone (not before time), although not the Sky 3 one.

Somewhat ironic then that they see fit to move the Sky 1 HD logo into the safe area (when it is completely unnecessary since there are effectively no 4:3 HD TVs).

What strange decisions these TV execs make Laughing

Almost all the Sky Channels seem to be using glass for their on-screen looks. A link to the main glass logo perhaps?

Sky News - Glass blocks rotating

Sky Sports/News/At The Races - Glass logo and blades rotating

Sky One/Two/Three - Glass curves animating

Other Channels linked in theme...

Sky Movies - Lights and Torches

Sky Arts - Beams of Light

Sky Box Office - Light Shimmers

All the rest...

Sky Travel - Location Imagery

Sky Real Lives - Interior Imagery

Sky Three and BBC Three are now disturbingly similarly themed.

I'm not a fan of the new idents, they look awful, and the soundtrack is rather wierd.
