Excuse my American ignorance, but what's the significance behind wearing the poppy-pin?
Alek, I'll forgive your ignorance if you can forgive mine. Every year I notice that the American news networks fill their studios with red flowers... why? I was thinking it was perhaps Thanksgiving, but honestly have no real idea why it's done. Could you enlighten me?

To the best of my knowledge it's a Christmas thing. The red flowers are pointsettias. They actually also put them up in my church -- I guess it's just the seasonal flower over here. Plus, the news networks probably feel an urge to recognise the 'holiday season,' without using any religious symbols.

I think it looks quite good - I wish Wales Today would use the sidebar for some things.

What IS that new background exactly? Is that the BBC Wales gallery or something?
11/11/11 - Remembrance day. It's a first world war memorial thing.
Nearly. 11 'o' clock on the 11th November is an international time for rememberance for ALL those who fought in ALL wars, not just WWI. Wearing a poppy is just the UK way of showing a sign of respect and is also a way of getting people to donate to the British Legion or something similar.

The BBC network news comes from London, right. But it doesn't show a view of, say, a London skline in the 'window' behind the presenter. Instead it shows the London newsroom, which is just an office and therefore there is nothing about it that implies London - because offices are offices, so look much the same regardless of location. Why do they do this? Well, as the programme covers
UK and World
news (i.e. news happeningr EVERYWHERE, as opposed to, say, within a specific region only), it would be odd for anything about the studio to imply a particular part of the UK (i.e. London).
Newyddion BBC is also and EVERYWHERE news programme. Although it's intended for viewers in Wales only, and is spoken in Welsh, it contains
Welsh, UK and World
news. So the previous view - Millennium Stadium, Cardiff - was a bit odd as it implies Wales. So now, like the BBC network news, the view in the 'window' is a room that could easily be anywhere - for the same reasons as BBC network news.
But is the new Newyddion 'window' view (a)the newsroom, (b)the gallery, or (c)something else?????

I always thought of Newyddion as a regional news programme because it was tailored to the Welsh viewers. Tell me though, what does the show mostly focus on? Wales, UK, or the World? There are regional shows (yeah, in North America : ) that are EVERYWHERE shows, but still show the skyline of the city they broadcast to...
Either way, the new background is nice, but what is it exactly?
