Discovered this on Beonscreen but it looks like Five are to bring back the gameshow Going for Gold in mid October as a live daily gameshow and it will air in the old Brainteaser slot before Neighbours.

Didn't Five - well, Channel 5 back then, have a show a few years back which was basically Going for Gold in all but name.

Yes they did, presented by Robin Huston, can't for the life of me remember it's name now though Embarassed

One To Win, it didn't have the same glitz as Going For Gold.

If Five/FremantleMedia are doing this then they should look at the French version of the programme (Questions pour un champion) which is still being made today, looks very modern, bright and still has the same buzzer noise.

Why? There's nothing bad or cringeworthy about their current presentation (a la BBC1 Dancers), their idents actually have a theme and a few are quite memorable (as opposed to ITV1, 2 and 3), they carried fairly well over into Five US and Five Life, albeit briefly with the latter; and their only weak spot is their insistence on using all small letters on their trailers, but it fits in with their logo.

I think this new look will be a breath of fresh air certainly, but I think since the last incarnation of the [(5)] idents to now the channel has had some of the classiest presentation. Certainly nothing to provoke a response that the passing of the current set is a blessed relief.

Oh those were fab weren;t they. My favourite ever five ident has to be the CSI bullet one from the (second gen?) five era.

Compare that to Keith Cheggwin prancing about in a white background and it shows how different a channel five is these days compared to when it launched.

More pictures and video available here

Twas introduced around August 2004 just before the second generation "five" idents were introduced (1st November 2004, same day as the ITV1 squares).

Didn't they also have on called " Whittle " ( I think ) which was presented by Tim Vine? And this was a direct copy of ITV's Everybody's Equal which was presented by Chris Tarrant.

Whittle was their 2nd ever quiz (after 100%) - both used to occupy the 5pm - 6pm slot - and involved lots of people wearing silly masks if the got the question wrong - then the final 10 going into a final knockout competition.

In terms of pure trivia and general knowledge - not a lot can beat 100%. Cheap, simple, and bombarded you with 100 questions in 30 minutes. Wasn't a bad show.

If UK Gameshows.com is correct, then it appears John Suchet will be hosting the new version, not a bad choice if true.

I loved One to Win. Used to be repeated in the mornings at 5.30am before the news from the ITN News Channel. I hope this new version of Going for Gold is a success.

Does anyone have video footage of One to Win at all? I'd love to see it again.

Each show will start with four contestants, and through a series of three rounds we will have a winner who receives a cash prize. They will also be able to return on the next show to defend their title.

It'll be just like One To Win then.

Interesting to note that it starts in October, so not long to wait.
