New Look Five?

Does five news have a new gallery background same as sky news behind the presenter?

I was wondering what was going on last night. I saw the Five News update just before 9pm and there were a number of changes. There was different music and the backdrop behind the presenter looked like part of the Sky News backdrop. I don't think the update came from the Five News studio, did it?

Of course, Five News has had some financial troubles over the past few months, with a number of reporters and presenters being made redundant. A cost cutting measure perhaps?

The musics been slightly different on the updates for a few weeks, at the same time they started doing a "here's the weather" slide with music at the end instead of telling us the weather and a wide shot of the studio (well they just stopped using wide shots at all on the updates so assume they're no longer using themain studio).

The picture does show though they so have a hint of the five news studio on the right.

You're not alone...

Just spotted a new ident on Five... the world seems to have turned to jelly.

I'm not sure about Five's current idents. Whilst some of them are charming in their own way, there is absolutely nothing that ties them together. It paints rather a confusing picture of a channel which is already confused enough anyway.

They seem to have gone the complete opposite route to BBC One, which has made the brand more prominent in their idents. In Five's, the brand is only visible for a split second at the beginning of the ident, and the rest can do whatever it likes.

I did rather like them when they first started, and in a way it's nice to see some variety, but I feel that overall they haven't been that successful.

I still really like the logo, stings and menus, and in fact the oddly placed text on the trailer endboards has grown on me as well.

Just thought I'd mention a few new idents that have popped up of recent weeks (okay, in some cases more than a few weeks).

The FIVE logo coming alive - I.e. the bug killer and a couple of others, seems to be a new twist on the old 2 idents.

Agreed, it takes the log, and does something with it, something simple, eye catching & effective.
