Going For Gold is really quite cheap and horrible.

It's live for one thing which meant they had to go to a break in the middle of a round and do the ususal Brainteaser type viewer questions which was very messy.

John Suchet looks really uncomfortable and talks.. like.. he.. is.. a.. robot.

And they've gone OTT on the gold theme, Impact font and ugly set. On the plus they've kept the theme just re-recorded it and they've kept the buzzer sounds.

EDIT: Beat the Buzzer took forever 15 minutes maybe? I don't think they properly thought this through.
Going For Gold always was naff, tacky, crap and one of the biggest blights on British television. This just continues the tradition.

I noticed at the end of Going for Gold that they credited Fremantlemedia as the producer rather than TalkbackThames who are making the show for Five. I wonder if the TalkbackThames name is gradually being phased out and replaced by Fremantlemedia UK.

It's just not the same now the titles don't feature the most "special" people from across Europe waving and grinning.

It's only Channel 5/five/FIVE, and their programming isn't renowned for being original, so your surprise at them resurrecting a tired old game show is hardly justified, Mr cylon!

It's worrying that you found that an enticing feature*. Personally I thought it was cringeworthy to the point of hovering on the "next channel" button, but each to their own Shocked

*I assume you were having a laugh!

I used to love watching the Henry Kelly version when I was a kid. I'm glad they've kept the buzzer sound and only re-recorded the theme tune. However, I do not like the fact that it is live. It feels disjointed and clumsy. Gameshows should definitely be pre-recorded so they can edit out any mishaps. It feels sloppy to me purely because it is live. To be fair, I think John Suchet did an excellent job. Presenting any live telly is bad enough but I imagine doing a gameshow live is probably about as tough as it gets. He's having to listen to cues for breaks, read questions, keep on top of scores and rounds etc. Considering he's presented the fairly formulaic news for 30 years, I think he did rather well.

I think he did as well as I had expected, the format was as I had expected although the rounds seemed a bit messy. The end of the first viewer comp did make me cringe though.

I'm not surprised that it has been credited as a Freemantle media production, personally I feel it was done as a safety net in case it was hit by some kind of scandal - if I remember rightly Quizmainia was always credited as a Freemantle Media production too.

Having seen an old style episode of Going For Gold on Challenge sometime last year I can safely say that as much as I loved the programme when I was too young for its timeslot, the only thing its really had going for it was the theme tune.

However, I'm not sure if I liked it or not?

To me it just seemed like Brainteaser, the format wasn't *that* different.

Has Five US had a revamp as well as FIVER? Or will it stay the same?

Five US has remain untouched for now - they've not even bothered tweaking the logo.

As for Fiver - it might be a nice corporate tweak, but I don't think the font looks anywhere near as good as the old (simpler) one on screen.
