Daytime On TWO was catored for primary schools only and the schedule ran from 9am, took a break at 10am for 'Playdays' and returned at 10.20am until 12.30pm. I think the schedule used to run for even longer in the late 80's/early 90's, until it was trimmed down as The Learning Zone kicked in.

They only started showing CBBC in that 10am slot on BBC2 from the mid 1990's, might have been 95 or 96, prior to that it used to be on BBC1, but Daytime programming got more of a priority hence the shift to BBC2.

I don't care much that Schools programmes are being shifted to the middle of the night (it's better for teachers who record them!) but I hope they fill the slot with something a bit more worthwhile than something like Animal Park, give us something other channels aren't during the day please BBC!

Yeah I agree. If it's not Animal Park it seems to be Escape to the Country. These are good now and again but not everyday.

You're right about CBBC moving to BBC2 in a 10am slot around the mid 1990's. I remember now because BBC2 used to show old films in the 9am slot prior to this move and remember being gutted when they stopped doing that because CBBC was on at 10am and more often than not the BBC would show a documentary at 9am (during school holidays) to fill the 1 hour gap.

I really miss those early morning films that BBC2 used to show. These days they always seem to avoid showing films on BBC2 these days apart from at weekends. During the week, if you look at the weekly TV schedules, the only weekday film BBC2 show is the late night film on Friday nights, which compared to other channels like Channel 4, it's disgraceful really.

Returning to Channel 4, the Deal or No Deal repeat wasn't on this morning - instead double ER. But for today only Confused

Yes, they moved it over in September 1994 so that they could start Anne and Nick half an hour before This Morning. But that idea flopped and, from January, they moved Anne and Nick back to 10.30 and showed EastEnders from the start - because it was the tenth anniversary - for three months and then various quizzes at 10am.

Of course, Play School was initially on BBC2, it moved over to BBC1 in 1983 and the schools programmes went in the opposite direction. The See-Saw programme also moved over to BBC2 in June 1987, the idea being that it wasn't consistently messed around with during sporting events, and also because BBC1 now had a full daytime schedule. See-Saw's final slot on BBC1 was 1.50 after Neighbours, but I've got a Radio Times with various letters complaining that they turned the telly on early and had to expose their kids to "unsuitable" scenes on Neighbours.

Did the CA say why? Is it the previous evenings episode that is normally shown?

Yesterdays episode was the start of love week. I actually watched the episode and didn't see anything obvious that would stop it from being broadcast in the morning.

It was probably some error at Channel 4 of some kind, or maybe they lost the print of the episode of Deal or No Deal or something like that. I bet fans of ER where delighted though Smile

Yeah that's right. I remember those repeats of early EastEnders at 10am on BBC1. They where listed in the TV Times as 'EastEnders: The Early Years' and I think it lasted from the spring right though to the summer. I can't see why the BBC can't do something similar again, just as a little treat for viewers.

I recall that after the daytime schedule kicked in on BBC1, the BBC gradually shifted all of the CBBC content onto BBC2. Up until 2002, all Bank Holidays and public holidays had CBBC on BBC1 each morning, but after that it was moved over to BBC2. This was a bad move because this meant they now had a big gap to fill the BBC1 schedules which often consists of the same old programmes and comedy repeats of Allo Allo and Morecambe & Wise. Where as when CBBC was on BBC1, BBC2 would show a morning of old films which represents a Bank Holiday schedule far better than a bunch of repeats which are still shown on BBC1 on Bank Holidays to this day.

When I tuned in and got ER I went and looked in my tv magazine and saw no Deal repeat had been scheduled for today, so it wasn't a last minute thing. Still rather odd though

And yes it's normally the previous evenings episode shown on C4 in the mornings

Just had a look at the schedule myself on Channel4.com. It wasn't an ER double bill. It was an extended episode (due to it being the last one). That's why Deal or no Deal wasn't shown. There is no ER tomorrow. I wonder if the Deal or no Deal repeat will be two episodes behind now or will they just skip an episode?

Probably just skip, as they're only showing 5 out of the 6 episodes a week anyway - unlike More4 who only show 5 episodes a week, but don't miss any out, meaning they've just had the Halloween episodes.
