As Catchphrase starts tonight, and I noticed that Challenge were showing some episodes today, I decided to catch one on Challenge. Something I haven't ever done.
In this particular episode I saw, there was an edit right at the beginning of the episode that is probably the worst edit of anything I've ever seen. It's like they didn't even bother trying to hide the join. It cut just after Roy Walker had walked on stage (while the applause was still at fever pitch) and then went straight into his joke. The applause audio wasn't even faded out, it just cut horribly. Firstly are the edits always this bad on Challenge, and what was it they cut out?

Roy would always make a reference to the end of part one Viewers Catchphrase during his intro. Since that's cut for obvious reasons, guess they decided Roy's referencing it had to go too (there's usually a similar edit after the break, where he would have repeated the phone number for it).
Ah yes I remember those, so that makes sense. Doesn't stop the edit itself being terrible.
Im sure ITV did them since, there also repeated the series, so there had to get taken out.
