Carlton Star yet its never been broadcast since 1981, so who put it on
It'll have been put on when Carlton digitalised all the Quads years ago. There are also some Central episodes of Crossroads which had this happen to them. Still better than what ITV Studios do by pretending they made the programmes by cutting off the original production company. Least Carlton and Fremantle didn't do that.
As for them being lost it seems a lot of things went missing but were never wiped and were just misplaced somehow. There are some ATV programmes that episodes survived in the early 1990s that currently can't be found.

That included a good number of Crossroads from the 1970s?
Crossroads drives me utterly mad. When Network released 1972, I said they'd missed two episodes. So they went looking in the ITC Film library and found three previously lost ones, but the two which had been there were no longer to be found!
So at some point, possibly under the Polygram ownership. The ITC/ATV film archive became a bit of a mess.
However the videotape stuff never left Broad Street in Birmingham, so how Bullseye (and several videotaped episodes of Crossroads) came to be lost is quite the misery as they had a slightly better record of keeping the tapes.
I don't know how much truth is on the story one ATV staff member told me they ran out of space in the basement at Birmingham so game shows and soap opera - deemed less important than other archive material - ended up in hallways.
Its probs true actually as an actress told me she was a fan of Tingha and Tucker the children's puppets and she found them stuffed in an unlocked cabinet on a hallway, so had a cuddle - they were later nicked.

That means there could be kept by a fan to save them?
There is some talk 1st series of Family fortunes has been lost but I doubt believe it. I take it everything that was recorded in to notts, was stored in notts?
I still think there most be more 1970s stuff like crossroad somewhere, ATV had to send tape out to STV, HTV, thames and southern as there never took a network feed.
Its not impossible for someone to have walked out with a quad, although they're not exactly small but if they were not in a secure place then its possible.
Family Fortunes is in a better state it seems for those early years than say Celebrity Squares which has so few episodes out of the 100 odd. Such a shame really it would have been a good one for late night Challenge to screen.

out of 138 episodes, none was kept? Monkhouse did record over 50?

Wasn't the very first series of Family Fortunes made at ATV's studios in Elstree, before later moving to the Midlands?

the first series of Family Fortunes was made a few years before their studios in Nottingham were opened
What year was that first series ... 1980 or earlier? Also weren't some of the early series 1982-83-84 at Birmingham?
The first series was made in 1979 for transmission from January 1980. The entire Bob series was made in Elstree, I think, and I know an episode of Max's first series was the last thing Central made at Elstree in 1983.
