I think I prefer Mr Babbage!

See I disagree, I always liked that board and thought it was a massive retrograde step to go back to the egg-crate setup.

Yes, the graphics couldn't be more '80s if they tried, but at least it doesn't look like a relic from the mid-1970s as the beige set did.

It's been reported on the Digital Spy forums that Challenge (and Pick TV) is currently free to air on digital satellite.

Whether this is deliberate is not yet known.

Yep, just tried it and it is FTA. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was made FTV for Freesat from Sky customers, but FTA is a bold move.

Well Pick TV was always FTA as it was Sky 3 beforehand....

I like how the 1987 set looked so futuristic then they returned to the brown set the year later.

Why is the intro so rushed in the current episodes on challenge? It's nice and relaxed in this clip from 1980: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGQ5n4EiIus

Funny how the 1980 set looks newer than the 1983 set.

I thought Challenge edit the shows themselves?

Some programmes shown by Sky's Challenge[TV] had previously been edited by Virgin's Challenge[TV] although I think any new acquisitions are largely intact. I don't think we are missing anything from Family Fortunes, are we?

I don't think we are, I get the feeling that the opening were just speeded up when max appear.

From the Les' era we are, but don't think so from Bob's or Max's....

Talking about edits, or in this case non-edits, the episode of 3-2-1 shown this morning was the one with the portable TV and ceramic dusty bins shown after the credits but before the Yorkshire Television endcap complete with clean theme music. I always wonder if this will be left in every time this episode is shown and it always is. Even though 3-2-1 is now audio described, this extra footage is not, sadly.

EDIT : Challenge[TV]+1 is also FTA, so I would say this was less likely to be a mistake than if it had just been Challenge[TV] that was FTA.

Other than the Sky+ functionality, what exactly am I paying Sky for now? Challenge [TV] is their best channel and if that is going to be free then they really have very little to offer.

It's been free on every other platform for 14 months now.

I think it's about time that all channels on Freeview are free on other platforms. It seems unfair to charge as a package when it's free to the nation on another.

Every other platform?
Freesat? No.
Cable? No.
Freeview? Yes.

That's only 33% of other platforms* or 25% of all platforms*. Anyway, I like Sky+.

*Figures only include platforms I can think of/am aware of.
