That would be the first Central ident used from its launch in 1982:

There was a Central ident that I have never seen before at the start of the second episode of Family Fortunes today. It had a fire effect and it looked like it was made on film. It was played out in silence. I'm sure the episode I saw earlier this week had a more traditional Central ident.

It was indeed.
There was a brief flash of a VT clock INNNN EIGHT on Bullseye this evening. It quickly changed to a bunch of books which was the actual prize.
I wonder how long it took to create the Bully's Prize Board VT, did the contestants actually get to see the prizes or was that all recorded later? Obviously the bit where we see all the prizes that they won together must have been done some time afterwards, although they dropped that in later series for still pictures.

That episode appears to have had technical issues during editing as the studio footage could clearly be seen behind the "Part Two" animation, that and the early cut to prize board 8.
As to the Prize Board, I would not be surprised in the slightest if one watched an entire series and saw only about, say, 25 diffferent prizes in all, therefore just record ten seconds of an item and slot it in as and when. The cumulative shots would probably be all done at the end of the run and dropped in, my best guess as a pick-up shot. I probably would argue as well because they were still using those horrible orange target things in 1985 that were in use since at least 1983, some prize shots could be from previous series. Who knows?

There is also a bit just after they have shown the prizes that the contestants have won. We hear Jim Bowen speaking but his mouth isn't saying what we are hearing.
Wouldn't it be pointless reusing old shots of prizes, since they would potentially have to get them all back and unboxed for the cumulative shot anyway? There was "a superb colour TV that gives you a hardcopy of the Teletext page" given away in Series 4 (Sept 1984 - March 1985), the TV was displaying teletext (Oracle) showing that it was Thu 18th Oct 1984 (actually the year wasn't shown, but 18th October was a Thursday in 1984) meaning that this prize video was recorded sometime during the run. It was the only time I had seen that prize too. The Christmas episodes also featured tinsel, streams and trees so my guess is that the prizes were recorded for each programme. Maybe in later series when they didn't use the cumulative shot and just showed the prizes won as a slideshow, they could reuse some of the shots. If we had a database of TV Times covers we could probably date some of the shots too, although later on they just used a copy of the TV Times with Bowen on the cover.

I remember seeing a TV in later series. The prize that always seemed to appeared was the White good IE fridge or Washing machine. I wonder if that was reason why the tv never appeared very often.

Not necessarily. Depends on what's won and what's available. How do we know what we saw on the TV is what the contestants received? The video camcorders given away according to the visuals were often Canon or Sony models and for all we know Fred and Daphne could have received a Philips or a Panasonic branded model. I would argue they are only indicative and apart from the TVs showing a Bullseye logo, nothing to suggest anything on the screen was actually working and for all we know could have been lifted out of a skip.
Doesn't prove anything. There was at least one domestic home video format that was capable (more by accident I suspect) of recording the teletext information as well as the visual picture so that upon playback, the TV would, in a lot of cases, be able to display the teletext page(s) from the signal recorded on the tape.
Not that Central would have done such a thing simply to show a TV with Oracle on it, but the possibility is the point I'm getting at.
Oh yeah - A TV with a printer in it? Really? How does that work then?
Christmas Specials are just that - special and one-off. Same old routine with some trees and some tinsel. Course the inserts will be unique.

Because for the first few months the ident did play out as silent. The same happened with the first series of "Auf Weidersehen, Pet!" that the ident played out in silence.
Anyone know why the central ident was played out in silence on challenge?

What series of Bullseye are Challenge showing at the moment? Jim seems even less polished than usual and didn't seem to have many of the catchphrases, meaning is it a fairly early series?
