3rd couple are going for the star prize, was this the only time this series?

It appears to be a very early Supermarket Sweep too - rather than the last (classic) series and the new series which Challenge has repeated in the last 4 years.

Just watching Interceptor at the moment. I apologise to anyone who likes her but Annabel Croft is a terrible presenter. When Clive (contestant) said he was going to donate the prize money to charity she said nothing and when she mentioned who the Interceptor was to the contestants, her tone of voice made it sound like he was a nice person not the baddie...

She is prominently a tennis player. Interceptor is a fantastic programme though and I don't think Annabel Croft's presenting style is important when you take in to account everything else happening in the programme.

Maybe if Thames hadn't lost their franchise or the programme was on Channel 4 instead of ITV, there would have been more episodes made. Some of it looked quite dangerous and probably illegal though, so maybe it was better that it ended when it did rather than someone being injured and/or the programme having to tone down the stunts as they moved in to the more health and safety conscious 90s.

I do apologise. This is my first time watching it and it's not too bad actually.

You are in for a treat. I can't decide what my favourite moment is. There is a bit where a contestant has to
catch a train, she doesn't have any money so the cameraman pays. It doesn't sound like much but its reality television at it's best.

Another good bit is when the Interceptor
steals a horse and chases a contestant (who is in a classic Rolls Royce) while riding it. Fake? Probably, but its good television

and how could I forget the bit where he is
arrested by the river police. Fake? Definitely. Very funny though.

This recent showing has been my first experience of Interceptor too - my thoughts are the same as David's, it's amazing they got away with jumping around an active railway in 1989, before you consider the standing on the edge of buildings sans harness/crash mats and the helicopters 1m above water level. It is brilliant though, and Annabelle is a bit too soft for the presenting parts, yes, but for the mostpart of the show where she acts as guide she's perfect.

I don't think Thames losing their franchise had much to do with the demise though. Thames would have no idea that they were to lose their franchise until 18 months+ after the series had been cancelled. Many of the production credits pop up in Crystal Maze, so I dunno, maybe that wouldn't have happened had Interceptor stayed?

Remarkable that a programme with so few episodes is remembered so fondly thoguh.

Oddly so true, it's probably the only show that Challenge have got where they only made one series of, most of their content have plenty of episodes available to show. Don't forget too the final episode was shown on New Years Day 1990 during the day, and apparently it did rather well in the ratings.

Although Annabel was a rubbish host, I guess that's where some of the charm of Interceptor lies, even Sean O'Kane acts very panto villian like, but it's still cult viewing.

Sounds like they attempted to bury it and actually got a load of kids watching!
