No one played for the star prize in tonights first Bullseye episode. First time I have ever seen that happen.

Interesting. I'm sure this happened in a later episode and Bowen said it was the first time it had ever happened. This is not the first time Bowen has lied/been mistaken though.

Nowhere in the rule book for Bullseye did it ever state that "somebody" had to gamble. Normally by the time one gets to the third couple they've won peanuts and it becomes a worthwhile punt for the sake of £130 for the chance to win a car/speedboat/caravan/holiday, all worth a couple of thousand easily.

Bowen must hate Challenge [TV] repeating Bullseye. All his lies are coming back to bite him.

Pardon?
Were you present at every Bullseye recording between 1981 and 1995?
are you in the compliance department of Challenge having received and seen the tapes?
Why do you doubt these anecdotes?

Well, I have to say that I do have a recollection of a "soft southern ponce" as my dad called him that wasn't well-liked by the audience in one of the early series, who went on to nearly, but not quite, win the game, and there did seem to be some animosity from the other players.

I don't recall him getting that close to winning, but the story could be true -- I was only young when it went out.

If that second clip is correct then it would have appeared in 1990 onwards? since it was around that time you also gamble the prize broad prizes on top along with the money.

Well, no. But...

Of course not. It's just...

Why do you doubt these anecdotes?

If you would stop interrupting, I'll tell you why I doubt the events mentioned in those videos happened, at least not in the way described in the videos.

To me, those anecdotes both sound like exaggerated versions of things that may or may not have happened. One can't prove a negative, it is up to Bowen to prove these things happened. If Bowen can post a screen grab that depicts a man in a cravat and his wife in a blue suit that would begin to restore my trust in him.

In other news, Simon Mayo spoke over the end credits of Interceptor this evening. The normal CA then had to step in and actually say something about when the show was starting as I guess when Mayo recorded his bits, it wasn't yet known.

I take it everyone has seen this...

The video is called 'Shay interviews Simon Mayo' although she clearly isn't doing any such thing. The only thing we learn from this rotten video is that her name is Shay and not Shane as both myself and Challenge [TV] have been saying. She doesn't get to say goodbye either. Mayo takes over as presenter at the end of the video for some reason.

Then I must not be thinking of the same episode! Laughing

The presenter is Shay Grewal, former participant of C4's The Family and now a co-presenter on BBC London 94.9's Asian show and also reported for Inside Out London.

Good to see Family Fortunes with Bob Monkhouse starting this Friday at 6pm on Challenge!! Also nice to see it is being advertised as in Stereo and Widescreen in some internet listings! Very Happy

Some listings also advertise Challenge Anneka on Saturday nights but at the moment, this is not the case...is this going to be shown at some point in the future?

I thought it was the Max Bygraves era of FF they're showing again on Challenge? If anything, I'd like to see the earliest
series (1980-81) with Bob Monkhouse, from when it had the original purple/blue set, produced by ATV - IN COLOUR!

Apparently, Series 4 which they've got hold of, is presented by Bob Monkhouse and Series 5 which Challenge have also acquired, is presented by Max Bygraves! So you'll be seeing 2 different hosts of Family Fortunes over the coming weeks! Which is good!! Keeps things fresh! Very Happy

Im sure I have seen that purple set on Challenge in its early days.

I always thought that purple set was far more modern-looking than the nasty beige number they replaced it with. Massive retrograde step.

Nice, snappy mix from ident to programme as well.

Why go back as far as the 4th series but not all the way back to the beginning? Same with Bullseye I guess?

Are the earlier series not available? Would they cost more as they'd require cleaning up?
