Short of remastering the program (which is impossible to justify, budget-wise at least), what can they do?

That was kind of my point. Why are they in the situation where they only have a copy of the programme with graphics burnt in? The graphics would have had to be put on after the programme had been edited anyway, so it seems odd that that version ended up with Challenge rather than a clean version. I had always assumed that Channel 4 displayed the graphics rather than Deal or no Deal, but obviously not.

Because Challenge have such a small budget that they have to rely on off-air DVR recordings?

Sky increased the budget for the channel, and have spent some pretty pennies on it.

Enough for an extra spindle of recordable DVDs then.

The competition graphic was added in during the editing so impossible to take out unless you went back to the original footage. A blue box has been stuck over the top to hide the text.
4k an episode. And what's coming early next year costs a fair bit more than a spindle of DVDs.

Well ok, only a little more.

About 100,000 times more if your spindle of DVDs is tenner.

This is cryptic. What is coming next year? Are you talking Blockbusters or something else?

The episodes yesterday of Deal or No Deal were slightly different to the established 'retro' episodes. The set has been slightly altered with the removal of the gratified Deal or No Deal logos in the audience seat aisles, these were replaced with bright lit up versions (complete with parts of the wall cut out). It is strange to have a relatively minor set change this early on in the series, was the previous version considered too dark?

Perhaps an order came in late?

They made several additions throughout the course of the live shows to the set and that was only over two week. They started off with Live/Countdown plasmas at the back, then added a clock a few days in under the DOND logo at the side, then added more plasmas over the wings during or towards the second week of shows.

Either what you're talking about was a late order, or they decided the set needed it after recording a weeks worth of shows.
