I have vague memories of that too. DIdn't she chair a question and answer session with a group of kids and a significant figure of the time towards the end of each programme? For some reason, Arthur Scargill being on it sticks in my mind.

Don't remember her reading the news, but wasn't she a stand in for Anne Diamond while she was off sprog popping?

Anneka used to be a newsreader in Hong Kong. It's where her television career started. I can't say as I've ever seen her read news in the UK.

I remember her telling the story that on one occassion she was reading a bulletin from a self-op studio in Hong Kong, with a foot pedal to operate the autocue under the desk.

Her chair collapsed from under her, and she had to balance in a crouched position on one leg, keeping the other one free to run the scripter. During the reports she called for help from the crew next door.

They, apparently, stood looking at her through the window, laughing, and saying something in their language which tranlated to "Have you any Rice?".

Anneka should write her autobiography. I've met her and she has some great stories to tell.

Like the one when she brought a camera crew to film a pre-arranged healthy food film in a Chinese restaurant. None of the staff spoke english and weren't too healthy with their ingredients. It was only after they'd finished filming, after a lot of confusion it turned out they'd gone into the wrong restaurant! Laughing

Is that the: "What's P-L-Y?.... Oh it's ply, sorry <cue uncontrollable giggles>".

She couldn't make the rest of the order, because she was in hysterics!

I was actually on a boat tour of the Thames today and actually spotted a CHALLENGE ANNEKA truck, not just a 4x4 but a proper full sized truck on the South Bank, not far from the South Bank LWT studios. Shame i forgot my camera today!
