cylon, surely BBC one should distinguish itself from 4 though? They do something with the numeral and that works for them, but it wouldn't look very good if BBC ONE copied that idea. The circles are rooted deeper in BBC one's history than '1' symbols and even the globe - see my posts a couple of pages back.

How come this site has turned into bitchforum?

Also, like the endboards if those are actual examples rather than just a demo of the font. Is the red circle the official BBC one logo then perhaps? Maybe they'll use that when the other channel logos are shown on the same screen/ page?

You're right of course but one thing I've noticed about this forum is there's lots of talk about what might have been. Everytime they did something with the '1' I thought they were finally going to move over to it but they never did. Such a shame.

However I think these new idents are better than the dancers and when I saw the hippo ident....I SMILED!! I BLOODY WELL SMILED!

The only times I did that was with some of the old 2's, the dancers never made me do that. These ones are proving to be a hit here and already we have our favourites. The dancers didn't have this level of positive response on this forum. Even on Media Guardian's podcast they were saying that they liked them.

In a few weeks they'll win the public over guaranteed!

Even the balloon got nothing but hate mail when it was first introduced, but it wasn't long before it had the viewing public on its side. Ditto the 1991 globe. The dancers still do of course, quite where the BBC got the idea the public was 'fond' of them, I have no idea!

Well they're hardly going to promote them as public enemy number 1 of the presentation world are they?

Strictly come dancing and Robin hood are just having the details and logos.

Yes I noticed that as well, no shutter. Could it be that come the relaunch we'll get the BBC one logo and the time of the programme but no red shutter type end board? A bit like how they used to do it.

Well POV sent a "viewer correspondent" to the press launch and had an interview with the controller. The press launch seemed to show clips of idents of old and of course the new ones. The only one shown full screen to us was Hippos.

During the interview the background seemed to show a 'generic' ident, full red with the circles and the logo animating on.

It would be good to have that as an ident in case something really serious happens in the news.

I'd like to see them a bit more adventurous in their presentation and maybe animate from a trailer into an ident like they did in Christmas 87 to 89.

Saying that... They've been doing some very nice experimentation with the shutter. There's the spooks one and I saw, earlier tonight, a nice vertical bars forming one for a new comedy. It's name escapes me.

Stuff that is seen just before a relaunch is never a sneak peak of how it will be done afterwards

I remember before the dancers came in, BBC1 used a '1' device on a few promos, people assumed this was going to be the new logo, obviously it wasn't

It's also very common practice for TV stations to produce slightly "generic"-looking trails in the run up to a branding change in order to avoid having to make two copies of the same thing. That said, that's more an old ITV-regional thing but I wouldn't be surprised if this Robin Hood trail isn't simply an example of cost-cutting/time-saving.

I know loads of you have seen them already but I was wondering if after their official launch (I'm waiting till then to watch them), one of the moderators could put a vote up to see which ones people like?

It's interesting reading what people are saying and it has surprised me, I thought hippo would have been universally praised but some forum members think it's silly.
