The best three in my opinion are Kite, Moon and Hippo. But they're all well made and you can see both how they have been picked to fit in with different programming and how the set can be expanded creatively.

I can see these lasting a long time.

Which one do you think can be used before serious programming? The death of the Queen Mother wasn't the only time the movement idents showed how inappropriate they were, Do you remember the Tsunami on Boxing Day 2004? They had kids bouncing on puddings to go into the news!! Shocked

Hopefully they've thought it through a bit more this time.

I feel the 8 new idents are a vast improvement on the "red dancers"...especially "Maasai", "Music Video" & "Bollywood", which we're very poor and somewhat embarrassing. The new idents appear modern, fresh and very classy! Perfect for 'BBC one'. I think the public will react very fondly to them. I'm liking the return (all be it in a very "2006" way) to BBC One's symbol...clocks, globes...CIRCLES. I must say however that I'll be sad to see the back of "Skateboarders", "Festival" and "Tumbler" as of Friday 6th October. I know some (if not all) of you dislike the last two...but I find them upbeat and energetic and perfect for weekend viewing and hyping up an intro. And I feel this is why I am very fond of "Football" in the new batch...with the repetitive, dance/electronic soundtrack to emphasize the repetive/looped action in the ident. Although I am very excited about seeing these 8 idents on-screen I've got a slight issue with the musical arrangement...do you think in 2 to 3 years time people will be able to hum the new jingle like they can with the "red dancers"?...maybe not? Anyway, well done BBC and Red Bee...you've brought 'BBC one' home! Only another 9 days to go! Tick, tock, tick, tock...

People have been saying lately that they can't hum the music but thinbk back to the classic '2's from the 90's. You couldn't hum those tunes could you, you just remember the ident. And with the '4' logo can you really remember the tunes that accompany them?

Those hippos are so cute! I can't believe they're not real. I want to stroke them, especially the two that pull apart in one of the earlier shots. Awwww! I'm going to have to go on a hippo safari. Do you think this could spark a wave of hippomania?!

I can't believe how much the new idents are getting slated on here. They've not even appeared on tv yet! Some of the comments seem really odd:

"the music varies from each one". Well so what if it does?!! The balloon music varied too. Actually there is a bit of a jingle. I think the subtlety is nice.

"they're un-BBC" - what does that mean? After years of a plain spinning globe, wasn't a balloon flying all over the place, with a new font, un-BBC? Weren't dancing people un-BBC? It's modern, it's different, I don't see why that makes it un-BBC...???!!

"the one looks like sky one" - well, if they're both called 'one' then that is going to happen. The old logo was ready for a refresh, they've done that, so what? If it was the same, it wouldn't fit in, and no doubt people would moan about lack of originality. Doesn't the fact that its called BBC one, and the quality nature of the idents distinguish them quite sharply from sky one?

"they look like they should be on channel 5" - how do you get that? Channel five's idents are boring, cheap, rubbish. How many people even watch Channel five to care? I saw one of their idents the other day and couldn't even make out what the word said - what good is that?

"there's no logo" - what do you call the big 'BBC one' in the middle of the screen? Doesn't that tell you its BBC one?! Why does it need anything else - they're meant to look stylish, not O.T.T.

They've tried the "1" days, the balloon and globe are dead and buried. This is something new, different, and personally I think pretty good. Let's give them some credit instead of being over critical - what would your better versions be? I don't think they could produce anything without someone managing to find fault!

I think they have at least two idents in the current package which would be suitable before something like that, and I think it was just a mistake to play that christmas ident, rather than them not having one that was suitable.

I can see "Flats" and "Kites" being aired most...into news for example. I think "Ring A Roses" will definately be a daytime ident. "Football" will be used for football, basically. I can see "Bikes" and "Surfers" being used to hype up entertainment programmes and films and being aired whenever. "Moon" and "Hippo" are random and will be used when 'BBC one' wants to show off.

It's a shame there are only 8 to start with, it must be down to cost. One of the good things about the balloon was that they had at least 40 to begin with so you had one potentially for each junction of the day. I think these new idents will become very popular very quickly. Kids will love Hippo and the arty ones will probably like Moon.

And remember people complained about the balloon and even the '2' when they first aired!

Now you'ver mentioned it your right! People would beable to explain BBC TWO's "Paint" ident, but hum the music...NO WAY Laughing . Maybe it's the "red dancers" that have made people question the 'un-hummable-ish' jingle this time round Confused . What would you prefer a noticeable jingle or a subtle jingle, like the new soundtracks?

I reckon that the Ring A Roses one is a very nice one - especially for a Sunday Afternoon, if you understand what I mean. Would lead nicely into a good old fashioned drama on a Sunday Afternoon!

I'm guessing the brief was "give us something a bit like Channel Four, only not quite as good". I'm surprised how weak the circle theme is in some of them, considering it's meant to be the big idea this time "round". The surfers and kites especially are "blink and you'll miss it".

I agree that "Surfers" is a 'blink and you'll miss the symbol' ident. Instead of seeing the surfer fall off and the logo randomly placed over waves...the surfers should go round and round and round...like a tunnel affect. It'd be difficult to design, but well worth it to enforce the CIRCLES theme more strongly.

I do have to say, that although I'm pretty indifferent about the dancers, I don't think it's that fair to slag them off so much. Few were ever going to particularly love the first set of idents without the globe, simply because the globe was going.

If these aired in 2002 and came straight after the balloon idents, I think we'd be seeing a very different reaction on these pages.

It's strange how most people, me included, have become very fond of the "red dancers" (well most of them...sorry for being harsh!) ever since we heard the news of the change and saw the new "campaign". Maybe it's the same old case of "you don't realise what you've got till it's gone".
