I've also just opened my Xmas presents two weeks early and they are really just like ITV's except bolder. Multiple imagery and different tunes on each one etc

They remind me of something but I don't know what, maybe those never used ITV hearts idents with the orchestral music, mixed in with the old Scottish and Grampian tv idents?

As others have said they are very un-BBC1 and very different to the single shot idents that they have used pretty much all the time up to now

Wonder what the promos will look like.

I think they will have big circle in the corner of the screen with the video in and at the side have the text and logo.

It will be interesting to see what the programme slides look like. Reading the Red Bee Media site it said that the whole presentation system will be altered. So perhaps they will be animated.

The shape of the logo means for promos it's not going to look right in any corner of the screen really - the best bet would be at the bottom in the centre, like 1997-2001.

Perhaps like BBC4 it might move to the centre at the end - I can imagine the small logo animating off and the larger logo in the centre animating on - and then perhaps the text will be aligned with the "one" - so is basically in the bottom right corner (again similar to BBC4).

It does seem strange now though they are moving away from the stacked logo - especially since it's only a few weeks since they revamped the BBC website to include the stacked corporate "BBC NEWS" logo - though that is never really used on screen itself.

Anyhow, having seen them all now they are a massive improvement and look alot more promising than the dancers and ITV1's current efforts.

Of course some idents are better than others - and some work alot better in video than the stills suggests. I was a bit worried about the hippo ident - but it looks great!

So we're guessing 10am on Sat 7 Oct will be the debut, presumably before Saturday Kitchen. Are we taking bets on the first ident yet - I'll go for Kites. I think they'll save the hippos for Robin Hood!

They're better than the current BBC1 idents - but that's not saying much. Still seems a bit too arty and out of touch for me.

The music on the kites one is reminscent of the ITV tree huggers, nee naww neee naww. That and the footballers, worst in the set.

They just don't seem BBCish or British (take the Hippos & the surfer) Laughing

How many idents are there with the current look?

Yes, interesting to see that - of the ones filmed in the UK - the furthest north they seem to have ventured was mid-Wales.

At least Auntie is being consistant. I didn't see many editions of the One Show with reporters any further north than Manchester!

I have to say that's just not true - there were at least 5 pieces from Scotland, one from Northern Ireland, one from Northumberland

Ohhhh, one piece from Northern Ireland. Rolling Eyes

Out of a total of how many items over the entire run?

I REALLY like these, having seen the video. They are visually appealing, and different to anything that's been seen on BBC One before. I like the circle theme, and the fact that it's been executed in such a wide variety of ways.

The hippos are probably my favourite - such an abstract idea, I wonder who on earth thought of it? They're endearing characters and the ident actually made me smile watching it. The dancers never do that! I'm also rather keen on Moon and Surfers, while the only duff one is the Footballers.

Perhaps most importantly, they "feel" really fresh and clean, probably a result of the high production values (apart from the dodgy end for footballers). A good, distinctive, modern sense of idents 100 times better than the dancers.

The best three in my opinion are Kite, Moon and Hippo. But they're all well made and you can see both how they have been picked to fit in with different programming and how the set can be expanded creatively.

I can see these lasting a long time.

When I read the description of the Moon ident I thought HUH!?! But seeing the picture of them in boats with pieces of the moon and then fitting them together has me intrigued far more than the dancers.

I've been really good and haven't gone to You Tube, I want them to be a wonderful surprise. But I'm so tempted!! Confused

I feel the 8 new idents are a vast improvement on the "red dancers"...especially "Maasai", "Music Video" & "Bollywood", which we're very poor and somewhat embarrassing. The new idents appear modern, fresh and very classy! Perfect for 'BBC one'. I think the public will react very fondly to them. I'm liking the return (all be it in a very "2006" way) to BBC One's symbol...clocks, globes...CIRCLES. I must say however that I'll be sad to see the back of "Skateboarders", "Festival" and "Tumbler" as of Friday 6th October. I know some (if not all) of you dislike the last two...but I find them upbeat and energetic and perfect for weekend viewing and hyping up an intro. And I feel this is why I am very fond of "Football" in the new batch...with the repetitive, dance/electronic soundtrack to emphasize the repetive/looped action in the ident. Although I am very excited about seeing these 8 idents on-screen I've got a slight issue with the musical arrangement...do you think in 2 to 3 years time people will be able to hum the new jingle like they can with the "red dancers"?...maybe not? Anyway, well done BBC and Red Bee...you've brought 'BBC one' home! Only another 9 days to go! Tick, tock, tick, tock...

The inherent difference being that the ITV1 idents simply feature a relay of random images, masquerading undering the guise that they are all connected by an emotion or feeling, whereas these (the BBC One idents) are effectively short films that have a common conclusion, that is the form up of the circle, from various things.

Apart from the respect that they feature real life filming, they really are nothing like the ITV1 idents.
