I think this is quite a good idea, as it expands on the red box logo.

That's been around for a year now, even though I like the idea (except for the BBC ONE coloured box)

Ties in rather nice with the News aston to.

I hope that the designers of the new branding remember to include an authoratitive, sombre ident as part of the package, even if it isn't used very often. This didn't seem to occur to anyone last time, leaving us, as we all remember, with the dodgy still of Ballet on the evening of the Queen Mother's death.

I still don't see how the dancers are considered inclusive. They certainly don't include me - not one of them features westcountry retail managers! I do, however, live on the globe...

If it had happened a couple of days earlier you'd have seen a still of the balloon. Would that have been much better?

Oooooh I like that idea. It's similar to the regional ITV idents that appeared briefly a while back.... with the yellow and blue boxes at various locations

Reminds me muchly of SF1 in Switzerland. Which isn't a bad thing in my opinion.

With the recent appearance of an Xmas Ident thread(!), it got me thinking about the festive pres offered in this era of the dancers. IMO, it really wasn't that great. The first 'snowflake' kids were the best of the bunch, but there was no new ident at all the following year which was a letdown.

Then came the pudding kids which were pretty bad; furthermore used into the news of the Tsunami -- why? Some sort of generic caption should have been made for these events.

And of course, last year's giant tree with the kids in an Oompa Loompa stylee. Some people seemed to like this, but I wasn't so sure. The whole slightly sinister concept with creepy minor key music and a somewhat omnious green coloured sky, wasn't 'christmassy' enough IMO, more bordering on Halloween fare.

My view is that, the last time we had a really good Xmas ident was 2001. BBC TWO had rebranded, but on BBC ONE, a wonderful sequence for the last ever Xmas balloon - the 3 toys (who featured in the promotions) floating past on their own balloons in the cosy living room, looking out the window to see the globe-balloon in the night snow -- and a brilliant soundtrack which perfectly set the mood.

What we'll get this Xmas is anyone's guess until we know what the idents involve. As much as I want to be surprised in the Autumn with a memorable symbol / icon, I'm sure it will be yet more people idents, where the only thing consistent is the logo, that's usually tucked away down the bottom of the screen.

Surely they would have shown the clock (remember that?!) or one of the very "slow moving" balloons?

I actually do think a still of the balloon floating over British countryside would have been better than all that red spandex.

Surely more appropriate would have been a plain BBC logo on a black background, similar to that used when Diana died.
