Indeed they were reviewed, as as of 06:55 not a single viewer had texted/emailed in to praise them.
People moan about just about anything. remember when the dancers were launched? well people moaned then too. The difference being the dancers are still moaned about today. the main cause of complaint is the costs. 1.2million pounds does sound a huge amount, but putting it in perspective, it's a miniscule amount compared to how much the BBC costs to run every single day. If the globe was being brought back people would moan about that too....probably saying the BBC is stuck in the past and needs to move on. I think we've more or less summed it up well on this forum, BBC1 have at last got some decent idents and ones which I think may be as popular as the balloon after a period of time. Let's wait and see.
Don't forget that real people (i.e the viewers) are more interested in programmes. Quite frankly I couldn't give a damn what shade of red or font gets used on any caption or ident. It doesn't matter to me (and I work in the industry). I watch TV for programmes, and so does Joe Public.
1.2 million is actually small beer for a national TV network, but BBC News are their own worst enemy here. Costs like this are always quoted out of context or perspective, so no wonder some viewers get steamed up.

I don't get that. Why would you get a large number of ant-BBC Licence fee people actually watching in the first place. Sometimes people just don't make sense.
I love you BBC and I want to have your CBeebies.

One of the reasons they're being slated is because there are too many Daily Mail, anti-BBC licence fee viewers are watching for every opportunity to slate the corporation. Just look at the BBC's Have Your Say website. It's full of poorly-argued puerile snobbery.

Has anyone found any videos of the new idents online yet - I've found 1 here http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/organgrinder/Bikeswithfinal.mpg and would like to see some more.
Just for the record - I've just been working with TV4 in Sweden (the equivalent of ITV there) and we rebranded the channel with over 70 new idents at a fraction of the cost of these 8. http://www.tvforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22186

No chance of a clock then?
It was referred to by Peter (Fincham) during the interview as an example of a circular element that has been on-screen at some point, but I think it was said strictly in the past tense.
So, this new look alludes to the clock, alludes to the globe, yet is neither. It's 'closer to home' than the dancers though, which were, to coin a term, very "Un-Beeby".
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have these on-screen for the next few years and I can see this idea has the ability to last, but ultimately I still feel the globe proper ought to be re-instated as BBC1's icon in the near future; it's the first thing I associate with the channel and the fact that it's still being used to great effect within news, shows it individually is not a dated motif by any means!
Interesting when you look at how identity has changed so much over the years; I wonder if we're losing sight of the fact that sometimes, strength in iconic visual simplicity does work better than an arty complex sequence. Right up until just 4 years ago, the globe served well and I have no complaints.
The balloon was a nigh on genius concept (and the only package where I felt some sort of generally local inclusion in ident Welsh 14). If they were to bring back a set from the archives I'd plump for the balloon era without hesitation.
But worth a mention, next one down on my list would be the Smoky '1' Globe, as I forgot how good it was - Who cares if it was mute; love that moody reflective style which characterizes the early 90's era, alongside the original set of 2's and that chilling BBC Video/Corporate ident...!

Am I the only person to think "Funfair" ident from ITV's "hearts era"?

Reading eveyone's comments over the last few days, one thing strikes me, and it's quite sad really:
The fact that so many people have admitted that these idents are so much better than they dared hope they would be.
What an indictment of TV pres in this country nowadays, that we all assume that new idents & branding will be worse than what has gone before. Isn't it a shame that, compared to the iconic ballons and strong ITV regional branding of yesteryear, modern cr*p like the recent ITV idents have forced us to set our hopes and anticipations so low...

You know, it's not the first time a circular concept has been used by BBC in its branding.
