So... are we going to take bets on which of the idents will be the first to be broadcast?

I guess it'll depend on what time they actually launch them (which is probably more than likely to be first thing in the morning as they have been for the last two launches) and the programme the ident leads into...

Tough call...but I think I'd go for the Window Panes ident; at least, I feel it'd be quite suitable as first of the day.

If BBC2 has a similar kind of centralised wording on the screen as BBC1, then where does the "2" fit into all this???

Either BBC2 won't have any centralised logo (which would make branding inconsistent), or it'll have one, but the '2' as the centre of the action will get dropped.

If it were up to me, I'd keep the '2' and devise a new logo similar to the new BBC1 style, to be centered horizontally but kept at the base of the screen a la 1997.

So circles then. Clocks being circular (most of them), it's a great opportunity to bring it back, but I won't hold my breath.

You wouldn't actually need a stand-alone clock with these. Just variants which allow a clock face to be keyed over, say, the moon, with the BBC one logo translucent in the middle of the timepiece. The backgrounds could be looping.

Has anyone from Ireland noticed the remarkable similarity of the new BBC One music to the Meteor jingle?

It has never, ever had a logo.

The globe was a symbol. A symbol and a logo are quite different.

What about the number 1 used on the globe through the 90s? They had tons of different ways of using that, didnt they? Like these below, taken from The TV Room:

Surely that's using the 1 as a logo, albeit stylising it many different ways?

This is a minor thing but to me BBC1 still doesn't have a logo. Channel 4 has a '4' and BBC2 has the '2' but BBC1 doesn't have a logo. It used to with the globe or the '1' from 1991 to 1997 but now it just doesn't to me. I don't want BBC one to be the logo it should be something else.

As TG has pointed out that was the logo it used from 1991 to 1997. It was a distinctive looking '1' that could be manipulated just like the '2' and was often used in their Christmas idents until the balloon came in.

Even though BBC TWO is written in a box their logo is a '2', I feel BBC1 has a distinctive look but it doesn't have a logo.

The 1 wasn't used as the main identifier for the channel. It was used as an interstitial for a bit of variation.

Interstitial yes but also as the channel logo at Christmas. They really missed a trick by not using this as their main ident.

Really?

I seem to recall that the "1" featured on the symbol, the trails, the programme slides, the menu slides, the animations (interstitials) and the themed moving-menu/trails. I think that rather qualifies it as a "main indentifier".

As far as I was concerned, the important bit was the spinning globe (ethereal though it was); but who am I to argue with the announcer, denton.

Technically the globe was the logo but for awhile they did something with the 1 and used it as a logo and had they gone in that direction I think it would have rivalled the 2 for creativity.
