Incidentally, I hope the Royal family have been briefed about this new look to BBC ONE and when it's going to happen... we don't want a repeat of what happened in 2002!

What did happen?

The Queen Mother died, and ballet was used for programmes seen as a more serene and sombre ident.

The Queen Mother died the day after the 'dancer' BBC 1 idents were launched.

Presentation depts temporarily started using black and silence again, everything was nice and relaxed, and there were no shouty links, and babbling.

After the dancers these new idents look absolutely fantastic. They look clean and simple, and it appears a good deal of thought went into them. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing hippos - it has the potential to be a really effective piece of TV.

So, if BBC1 rebrands and BBC2 doesn't (at least, not yet), then that will mean the current box logo will have survived the longest on BBC2 as BBC2 first adopted the current look.

If BBC2 has a similar kind of centralised wording on the screen as BBC1, then where does the "2" fit into all this???

Or will it be along the lines of "BBC '2' " ? i.e. the number '2' and not the word 'two'. If so, then I wonder how the logo will be formed?

I'm guessing (if BBC Two keep the big 2) they'll move the wording to the bottom middle (as it was before) or even make the big 2 go off-screen towards the end as the wording appears. I can see that working.

This is a minor thing but to me BBC1 still doesn't have a logo. Channel 4 has a '4' and BBC2 has the '2' but BBC1 doesn't have a logo. It used to with the globe or the '1' from 1991 to 1997 but now it just doesn't to me. I don't want BBC one to be the logo it should be something else.

It has never, ever had a logo.

The globe was a symbol. A symbol and a logo are quite different.
