i'm actually really impressed. i wasn't expecting to be, but i find these to be a hundred times better than the dancers, and these will stand the test of time. they will also look fantastic in hi-def, which is surely something they had in mind. this especially:
Yes, I assume these have been made in HD, anyone know?
(sorry if this has been answered already, I'm having to catch up with 20 pages of this!)
The idents are definitely shot in HD and I think that's part of the reason behind some of them...the scenes are particularly picked to look absolutely stunning in HD.

In that case it's probably also the reason behind the cost!
Right, just had a look at DS and Media Guardian and I can fairly say the new idents are much better then the current, puts ITV1's to shame. Also it makes BBC One look like they've entered the 21st century, it looks all like a commercial channel.
I guessing these were filmed in HD, In prep for BBC One HD? (aka would look fab)
I know we're all over-analysing somewhat as we've only been teased with one video, but going on the Bikes ident, I'm struggling to work out exactly when an announcer would start speaking.
Would it be at 15 secs once the text has formed and after the initial climax of the music, or at 18secs once the red has formed? or even later at 23secs once the animation has calmed down?, but then you kinda run out of backing music. I'm so confused! I'd hate to see speaking start any earlier as it would ruin the whole effect (yes, stv, I'm talking to you).

Maybe marksi can help?
I'd say any time from 13 secs actually (they may fade down the sound a bit) and the programme would start at around 24 secs.
Having seen one of the idents on MHP Private Parts - I'm not so sure about them, I mean the music doesn't really have a tune that you can sing the name of the channel to (like you can on the opening bars of the BBC TWO ident music - but not that you'd go around doing that!) and from the preview I've seen it doesn't look like they've given the announcer a place to speak...
It's a shame it looks unlikely BBC2 will rebrand at the same time - when there is a change in the branding policy it's better to have it all done at once IMO like ITV did (well, minus ITV4) earlier this year.
It's interesting that we seem to have almost drifted right back to the 1970s/80s situation where the idents on BBC1 and BBC2 had absolutely nothing in common with each other (save for the stripy lettering in the early 80s). Now only the BBC logo itself will be common to both channels.
We know the BBC2 is to change its look soon, so may well adopt the same style of logo, but where does that leave 3 & 4? In particular I can't really see that design of logo working with BBC4's idents which have only been on air one year.
So why aren't the BBC all that bothered about having any commonality of design across its channels any more? Seems quite clear the 1997 branding police have long disbanded!
Incidentally, I hope the Royal family have been briefed about this new look to BBC ONE and when it's going to happen... we don't want a repeat of what happened in 2002!
