On the question of shorter versions of the idents, for the Biker ident which we have seen, if you remove the first approx 10 seconds, that looks like a good short cut version of it, in terms of both the visuals and the music.

I suppose that 'Yorkshire & Lincolnshire' and 'North East & Cumbria' could be split into two lines of text.

Good thinking Spencer - I suppose there is the space now - and for "Northern Ireland" if they wanted to retain uniformity.

I hope we are treated to more full clean versions of the "dancers" by BBC1 NI before they go. It was nice to see the full tumblers, and skateboarders has been my favourite, but that never seen that as a full clean version.

Well now I suppose Wales may benefit from being a short word by being comparatively large -- mind you this isn't that case on ITV. I wonder if promos will still be locally rebranded -- it doesn't seem likely.

It would have been nice to have the branding return to

Wales

It also seems a shame that there won't be an ident used particularly in that nation/region, as with the balloons -- unlikely if they only plan to create 16 [apart from for St David's Day perhaps].

Just for your info, I first saw this on BBC News, although I can't see any new images there that haven't been posted already.

The link is http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5381292.stm for those interested.

These seem easy enough to edit down should shorter idents be required - just a case of either clipping out all the cut-aways and starting with the transition into the logo or splicing some of the cut-aways out and having a shorter ramp into the transition. Similar to the balloons, some of which had quite long intros before the logo appeared, some starting straight away with the logo fading in after only a couple of frames.

Maybe it's me, but when I saw the hippos one, I couldn't help but think of Fantasia.....

Overall I'm very impressed by this new package; however I would like to see a brand-new look BBC One, not just a new set of idents slapped over the same channel.

Firstly, it is channel 1. The first channel on UK listings and lineups. It is the first channel most TVs will, by default, switch on tuned to. Therefore it should make a point of being number 1 through the quality of its programming.

Secondly, it is a non-commercial channel. It does not show adverts. Therefore breaks between programmes should be short. The channel should not show endless banks of trailers for other programmes. Somewhere in its identity it should hammer home the point that programmes will not be interrupted by ads, that there are short junctions between programmes, and not risk losing casual viewers by showing elongated trailer "breaks".

Thirdly I would like to see a refresh of the schedules. The news at six and ten are great butresses around which to create a timetable, but other milestone hours should be highlighted so people always know to tune in at 8 or 9pm because something extra special will be saved for then.

Lastly, Saturday night. Ugh. Saturday bloody night. This seriously needs some life pumped into it. Casualty has to be booted to another night. In its place should be an entire evening of entertainment based around one studio programme. This can incorporate the lottery draws, and be along the lines of ITV's big saturday nights in of the past. I know I know light entertainment is dead and buried, but a show along the lines of the Generation Game, Noel's House Party or something similar is needed just to liven Saturdays up a little. End it all with a blockbuster film and that can be a nice Satrurday in for everyone!

These idents will provide a much-needed breath of fresh air for the channel as a whole, but I think it needs to go a long way before it will be regarded as The One.

Best not. We wouldn't want to waste NHS resources by having to have you resuscitated by one of your esteemed medical colleagues.

For a Chritmas ident you could start with a front view of a Christmas tree, then move upwards, so you end up looking straight down at it. You'd end up with a round image perfect for the logo,

is there going to be a clock version of these idents?

PS: they show up as .art files to me - not JPEGs

apologies if somebody's said this (not going back through 10 pages to find out) but I'm guessing you're on AOL - turn off the compressed graphics option in preferences, clear your cache, reload the page and you should get jpegs
