New look for BBC1

How do they look half-hearted? Compared to a bunch of people dancing in more-or-less the same place on screen, sometimes against rubbish backdrops, and not doing all that much, they look brill. I think loads of different, well-shot images, the logo forming in place, and different things continuing to happen to the image until the end can hardly be described as half-hearted! And yet, there is still some simplicity - with an o.t.t. logo, they would look too much - too jazzy. Aren't they modern and fresh-looking? Also, to think that the images aren't all computer-generated, such as kites, where people are actually doing something quite impressive and artistic at the same time, is really clever! I think they look great, and are just what was needed. My only criticism would be that there is now so much inconsistency in the way the BBC brands itself - they do need to do something to link their branding again - perhaps replecating the 'one' style across other channels would do it. So the light red Robin Hood box was a white elephant after all...

Very impressive - loved the bikes ident, good music and smooth animation.

Nice long idents too

They are really long idents, but I wonder, will they really wait 15 seconds before the announcer starts talking or will they talk over the top of it, especially a few months down the line when they've been seen 100s of times

Also the music seems to pretty much end at 25 secs so will that be the maximum length that it can be used or will they talk over the silent bit

It'll be interesting to see if the idents have a common musical theme or if they are all different like ITV's and Channel 4's

The way the logo animates in at the end looks a bit like the start of a TV programme doesn't it?

Anyone else got flashbacks to BBC Knowledge's idents?

The stills look nice for me but the music on the bikes sounds far too ITV for me - especially the way the logo comes in f.o.r. some reason. The moon and surfing ones look pretty nifty however, I'll be looking out for those.

I actually think BBC one's new idents look WORSE than ITV1's!!!

God knows how you came to that conclusion.

Underneath the 'one'. Not sure BBC Scotland would be happy with that though - it'll look a bit small if it's going to fit under the 'one'.

Will we see something like this, in the future?

They clearly are looking for these to last longer than the current idents, and at least as long as the globe idents.

In the end though, won't the dancers have actually been in use longer than the balloons?

Yeah, white elephants circling round a man in tights on a red box - that's ident number 9 sorted then! Laughing Laughing

Considering now the trailers seem to run for longer in between BBC programmes than breaks on commercial networks there is no reason why they couldn't let the idents run in full more often. I expect though they'll be long and short versions of each ident.

It's a shame it looks unlikely BBC2 will rebrand at the same time - when there is a change in the branding policy it's better to have it all done at once IMO like ITV did (well, minus ITV4) earlier this year.

Pure speculation but I think this could lead to the end of the animated 2's, with the "2" logo instead incorporated into the channel logo on the centre of the screen.

I stand corrected....

BTW - does anyone know if one of these new idents will be reserved for "periods of national reflection" like Ballet was?
