I think they're all fantastic - clever concept, executed with style & class, and something that actually gives a real identity to the channel once more.
These are the idents that we should have had 4 years ago to replace the globes - a nod to tradition, but with a thoroughly modern twist. I suspect that in years to come the balloons and circles will be remembered whilst the embarassing dancer era is quietly left to fade away in people's memories.
Interesting that the DigitalSpy report says that "another eight executions [are] planned over the next five years". They clearly are looking for these to last longer than the current idents, and at least as long as the globe idents.
What I love:
The potential - the circle theme is so versatile that there can be countless new versions of it, including special ones like the versions of the globe they made for Walking with Dinosaurs, Millenium, the eclipse etc (don't forget that the concept could conceivably still be around for the Olympics!)
Production value - they look great, and it's obvious that a lot of time, care & attention to detail has gone into them. BBC One/RedBee have clearly had fun creating them & I think that shines through.
Music - interesting and contemporary soundtrack, with a memorable cord sequence that sounds as if it will be repeated (with different treatments) across all the idents.
I understand people's point about the logo looking like Sky One, but to be honest how many other ways can you write 'one' without it looking like something else - it's only 3 letters afterall !! In any case, it's a massive improvement on the in-your-face red box.
I dunno - sounds daft, but it really feels like BBC One has 'come home' again, after a few mad years in the presentation wilderness.
As for the Christmas ident - as long as it doesn't invovle bloody kids then I'm happy!!
