Well, I think BBC One will rightly have quality likeable on screen idents again. I can certainly relate to them better than the dancers. And they're non PC. Which is an added bonus. The hippos one reminds me of Disney's Fantasia for some reason. Classy nonetheless though. With regards to critiscm of RedBee.....remember they devise concepts after ideas from individuals. The circle concept was more than likely thought up by several people and RedBee would turn that idea into reality. The same as ITV. They have weak idents because of the ideas and concepts put to them. They will devise what they are told to devise. The fault lies with the organisation commissioning the idents rather than the marketing company.
With BBC One, I think the new look illustrates just what good work a marketing company can do when given a good, clear instruction to begin with. And, it isn't too early to speculate on this years Christmas ident. Methinks a giant red bauble! Lol!!! Just to wind you guys up!
I like it...better than anything I was hoping for!
If we can't have a globe, a circle is a damn fine substitute and so much more flexible. The clock could easily return if the creatives had a mind for it to.
As for the font...I'm hoping there'll be decent enough screen grabs for the fontographers to work from soon...
Wow, this is very strange; i'm actually feeling really interested in TV presentation again...
Compare this reaction compared to the Dancers press release...
The circles theme, certainly a move back towards the globe, but in a way that allows them much more freedom. A circle can appear anywhere (although with those production values we won't be rewarded with hundreds of idents) they really are a more flexible concept.
Logo, reverts to the centre of the screen, so that IMHO it looks better in different formats, plus the logo actually animates very nicely.
The idents have actually had some post production, some thought went into them rather than just pointing a camera at something. The music is interesting and actually ties into the ident.
The only thing i'd change is the orange/red gradient because I think that the red blurs before were more interesting - but i'll have to wait and see how and if it works with the rest of the set.
Finally they actually look good and work. The Bikes ident really works, it is interesting and i'd imagine it will live up to a few years on screen more favourably than the dancers.
I'm most interested by the Kites ident at the moment, the blue sky and the kites is really appealing visually.
Better than the Balloon? Eell, maybe, maybe not; however they are different in terms of pace and concept.
Credit must go to Red Bee for fulfilling a brief very well, and Peter Fincham for giving them that brief.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly with you Simon. Modern idents but somehow traditionally BBC1 in some strange, safe sort of way. They are visually stunning and look a lot more interesting than the dancers. Thank goodness Peter Fincham ditched the dancers. His BBC1 is already far superior to Lorraine Heggesseys in terms of content and variety so it was inevitable his ident ideas would be too!
It's so annoying being at work I can't watch the ident. It's interesting we're really seeing the globe with the centre missing aren't we? Like the pic of the moon.
What I don't understand is why have all of those Robin Hood posters with the box and not the new logo? What a waste of money. Also it's a shame they started to do things with the box and then they ditch it. I wonder how the trailers will look.
I also would have liked to see something a bit computer enhanced like Channel 4, but they look better than what BBC1 have now and is Red Bee's best effort in a long, loooong time.

There is computer enhancement mate. When you get to see the ident yourself, you will notice a bold red glowing centre that appears at the end of the ident. Also, the moon apparently reforms from high in the sky to the horizon. The hippos are all obviously regenerated from computer, so I suspect all images will be extremely great to look at. God how poor are the dancers compared to this? Looks like the perfect evolvement from the balloon shots.
not envolvement, but
evolution
Also it would look weird to have two different logos appearing on BBC One, so they use the old logo (obviously a last minute addon to the Robin Hood Trails) which would then be replaced by the new logo when the new look launches.
All Promos being made now, would have old look and new look versions, so on Oct 7th they flick the switch, and the old look is gone, and new look is in.
It will be interesting seeing how the new logo is advertised along side the box logos in the transitionary period.
I also wonder if BBC Two's new look will use a similar logo style, or a new style completly, and will this custom font be used by all 4 channels or will each have its own font.
