In the north west they have just shown Haka. But it had just 'north' in the box not north west. It was shown before the rugby league show

All of the BBC1 Northern England regions (NE&Cumbria,Yorks&Lincs, North West) opted out of tonight's film to show Rugby League Raw. This happened last Autumn as well. The same ident and anno was played out across all 3 regions, hence the BBC ONE North red box and "This is BBC1 in the north of England".

Just out of interest, where does the playout for the north of england come from? Newcastle, Leeds or Manchester? I'm guessing Manchester.

Great to see both the Haka ident, and the word North in the red box which we've never had before. Last year there was no name in the red box, just BBC ONE. I quite like Northern England opting out of the network. I didn't tape it, has anyone got any caps? Andrew, where are you?

I'm guessing Leeds - as in the past they've been able to get widescreen at Leeds, Hull and Newcastle before Manchester was upgraded.

Was this a proper BBC ONE North red box or the dodgy bodge job with NORTH in capitals? And was it a local announcer?

im not trying to be rude but we have 48 pages of gueses and schedules i think it would be best to leave this topic until we have a a real source from the bbc saying when they are going to start?

Has any one else noticed that on the Robin Hood trails the shade of red used in the BBC ONE box is slightly brighter? A clue could be in there.

I don't think you can read anything into this at all - it doesn't make sense for a number of reasons...

Saw a Robin Hood poster on the side of a London bus yesterday afternoon - the BBC ONE red box was exactly the same shade as the current on-screen identity. Also saw the first trailer for Strictly Come Dancing last night, which also starts on October 7th - again the box was the normal/current red shade.

My guess is that whoever produced the trailers for Robin Hood (likely Red Bee, as per Doctor Who) used a slightly different shade, probably unintentionally, and it was not possible or worthwhile changing it afterwards. You only have to look at the dodgy Question Time trailers each week to see how the box and red colour are used inconsistently.

Also, consider this...
Why produce a range of teaser trailers using the 'new' shade of BBC ONE red, if on the day of the actual relaunch those trailers will not be seen again? I.e. - If we believe that the day of the new ident launch (7th October) is also the same day that Robin Hood starts, then these trailers will actually no longer be used from that date because the series will have actually started (if you see what I mean!)

Also, last time the idents changed in '92 I can remember there being two sets of trailers for some programmes - firstly using the old pres until the 29th March, and then exactly the same trailers with the new pres after the relaunch.

I'm not saying I disagree but if the idents launch in the morning, as you would expect, then surely the promos would be shown after the relaunch...

The trails on the day will be 'tonight' trails though, not the same versions they are showing now

The BBC ONE North West box used to be pink on the Tai Chi ident! Sometimes it's bright red, sometimes it's a darker red - it varies all the time. Also, the whole look of the Robin Hood ad is quite bright, not just the box - maybe it's just part of the attempt to make the ad distinctive.

So no-one thinks that November 2 could be an equally plausible date (70th anniversary of BBC ONE)? Are they not planning anything to mark this occasion, like the itv 50 idents? It seems a bit daft to launch a new look a month ahead of a milestone birthday - the perfect date for a rebrand.

That means nothing. Trailers have always been kept in the old styles pre-relaunch, across all channels.

Exactly - that's the point I was making. The Robin Hood trailer has a slightly different colour - so what? It's an oversight made by whoever produced the trailers. It has absolutely nothing to do with the new look. You wont see anything of the new look on-screen until the day it's launched - idents, trailers, whatever.

That surprises me as now we have one big line-up for October 7th with football, Robin Hood and Strictly Come Dancing. Throw in the lottery and it looks like there will be no time for Casualty (though I won't draw up a schedule as I know it annoys some people)

As for the NI closedown - brilliant! I was thinking that he had left the anno a bit late on Tumbler and then for it to be played clean and in full (deliberately) is definitely a rare treat. And add to that another full ident of Skateboarders with a large amount clean then it was one decent junction. The only thing I would have preferred would be to have had Capoeira or Tai Chi instead of Skateboarders simply because I'm not a big fan of Skateboarders.

I doubt we will have any more of these though.

Probably was Leeds, since that's where Rugby League Raw is made, and there was a promo for the Super League Show over the end credits.

It was a proper BBC ONE North red box, but I couldn't tell you who the announcer was but it wasn't the Network announcer.

Incidentally, Network put a Next slide up without being aware that half the country was opting out in 30 seconds time. Rolling Eyes

It was network continuity after the rugby programme, they obviously decided to timeshift the whole lot - whereas before they have done their own continuity into the timeshifted programmes without any trailers.

The current schedule for 7/10 is:
16:45 Match of the Day
19:05 TBA
20:05 National Lottery
20:20 Casualty
21:10 TBA
21:35 The Vicar Of Dibley
22:05 BBC News

Assuming that the TBAs are for Strictly Come Dancing, I can't see anywhere for Robin Hood to go, unless Strictly is just one part and they drop The Vicar of Dibley for Robin Hood at 21:10.
