Too soon for it to be used on screen or too soon for a press release? This is rather an enigmatic piece of news but another story going round is for us to be prepared for something unusual!

If there is a press release about the new idents on Friday 28th July - maybe the new idents will launch on Friday 1st September? (i.e. a press release around a month before the relaunch).

Why so long? Press releases and official launches are usually only given a few days before the launch on air (if you do get one.) In 2002, the press release and launch came on the Tuesday and the idents were on screen on the Friday.
Its perfectly feasible that idents could launch this week - after all, you all seem to be thinking that they wont have enough time to make them but they have been in the building process for weeks - it hasn't just started!
Also, why would we hear anything about them way before they launched - just look at the secrecy over the BBC News refresh and other changes to channel presentation.
I dont know, at this exact moment, if any will launch this week - were just have to wait and see for now, but it could happen!

Valid points but I think that maybe they will launch the first week of the new season on both channels. That' what they should do but the BBC launch their new idents at very weird times.

Very true....the balloon idents first appeared on at 06:30 on Saturday 4th October 1998.
Hardly a significant day or time. There was nothing special about the date either.
