I read that the clock was never accurate anyway, it ran a second fast so it hit the top of the hour at xx:59:59 so that the news started bang on xy:00:00
Well, that's every childhood memory of setting my Casio F-91W to the 9 O'Clock News ruined.
It's an old debate but makes no sense they use the "digital delay" to excuse not showing a clock for 10-15 seconds three times a day yet have one permanently on display for about 8 hours each day.
These new idents are amongst the worst idents from anywhere in the world, ever. They are so un-BBC like that it makes it look like some el-cheapo local TV channel.
I would say they make a great argument for bringing back the clock as a introduction to the news and other serious programmes.
The clock wouldn't be accurate because of digital delay, though that doesn't seem to stop BBC Radio continuing to use the pips.
Or indeed clocks on breakfast TV or news channels.
Though these don't ever include the second, only hour and minute.
Or just have a 5 second ident and be done with it...
The benefit of idents as the BBC use them is that they give the network director a lot of flexibility to tweak the lengths of junctions to get timings back on track.

I never 100% trusted anything on the telly, I always used the pips on Radio 4 to set my digital watch ( Very early Casio LCD, I recall the excitement at school of July 7th 1977 for those of us with digital watches !)

When are the mountain rescuers idnet going to appear for the rest of us? Also I think it strange this one has been brought out into use for local areas yet the pres etc would make you think it would be this one ( see below) would be no3.

Seems to be only Norwich using Mountain Rescue today. Suspect they aren't supposed to be either.

Why is NO one smiling in these other idents, look above, that suppose to be a fun game yet most along with Mountain Rescue look like Southern TV staff on New years eve.
Even with the same "oneness" concept I'd rather they'd have just asked a crew in each region to go out and film something - at least then each region could have it's own ident.

The root problem comes from hiring Parr - he's a photographer, not a cinematographer. The direction in the idents is seriously flawed, not making use of the audiovisual needs of TV, and as a result it's lifeless.

Inching closer to 100 pages...
Yes, producing moving footage to a level of skill above the average Joe Public doesn't seem to be in his skillset, but in order for it to be given the go-ahead, it must go through many others before this current assault on the eyes gets plonked onto the servers for airing.
I suspect batch No.2 will be just as dire and only the ones yet to be filmed have a chance of being reconceived and reworked into something better than originally planned, in direct response to the overwhelmingly negative appraisal of the first batch.
