The clock wouldn't be accurate because of digital delay, though that doesn't seem to stop BBC Radio continuing to use the pips.
These new idents are amongst the worst idents from anywhere in the world, ever. They are so un-BBC like that it makes it look like some el-cheapo local TV channel.
I would say they make a great argument for bringing back the clock as a introduction to the news and other serious programmes.

Interesting (to me anyway!) to see the Subtitles tag in the BBC One font rather than Gill Sans. How often did that happen? Can't recall anything other than Gill Sans being used.
A typical network news junction from 7 1/2 years ago, for comparison purposes...

That was before the BBC One idents edits if I don't get wrong

I was hoping they were getting ready to give the exercisers and swimmers a darn good kicking! 😉
Is it just me or is there something rather sinister and threatening about the Mountain Rescue ident? It's like they're all gathering ready to give the viewer a good kicking.

Or indeed clocks on breakfast TV or news channels. Digital delay will probably be no greater than non radio controlled clocks in people's houses.

Remember though that the BBC had to take down the Flash clock on their homepage because someone complained it wasn't accurate (based on computer clock).

I don't think the accuracy issue is a big deal, most people have clocks in their houses that are far more inaccurate than the clock would be. Also, I think it would be more of a symbolic thing now, rather than a thing that has to be spot on accurate.

I finally got round to writing all my thoughts down about the idents (sorry, it's a long read and nothing new but, y'know, if you're bored...):

I've always said we should have an entry exam for this place.
No no, I'd hate to be the only one posting on here.
Just to offer an alternative opinion:
I loved the Rhythm and Movement idents - and I would hate to see the Balloon brought back now.

The original edits all* included the Subtitles tag set in the BBC One custom font; it was changed to Gill in May 2009 when the re-edits were made.
*Except for Space/Mission Control, which used Gill from its 1st TX. (Can I delete this entirely useless information from memory now I have relayed it?)
