If they were serious about even just the "oneness" thing then they would have prepared versions of the circles idents with the "ness" on the end. Just throwing one of the old idents on air with no edits shows a total lack of confidence in their idents.

So does this mean BBC One have switched back to the circles for every junction?

No. Sea Swimmers was played out at the 9pm junction - its important to note that the BBC ONE circles are only there with sombre and extremely serious programming.

Unlike the flippant and trivial news programmes they introduce with Swimmers?

What doesn't make sense is that in the context of Oneness the new ident they released to some regions at 6pm would have been fine to introduce Panorama with.

Which is a shame - the whole plan for a rebrand seems ill thought out and full of incompetence.

It was very telling once they had decided to only announce the rebrand internally in mid-December.

its the most incompetent rebrand in television history, the fact that they reverted to their old ident rather proves how ill-conceived these oneness idents are.

If Circles are still being used for serious programming then they should be used before all News broadcasts as well. Seeing those swimmers before the 10 o' clock news does not feel appropriate to me.

Or just all programmes. You know, just to be safe.

Unlikely. It was just the content of Panorama that would not have been appropriate with either of the current idents.

Or to put it the right way around... neither of the current idents was appropriate for the content of Panorama.

Still amazes me they realised this but playout didn't think to drop the trailer for Death in Paradise beforehand.

Marshmallow made a very good point earlier, though, in that there was a 'Death in Paradise' trail during the junction. Maybe so much focus was placed on an appropriate ident to lead into the programme, sight was lost on the appropriateness of all the trails within that junction also.

(edit: the post above just pipped me to the post)

I agree - sadly tonight just shows. It just shows.

At least it's been lightened up by be3's launch and the comeback of Paper Cutout on BBC TWO NI.

Isn't that more a Media Planning & Scheduling issue?
