According to Wikipedia, the "Forest" ident (which is just trees, no people and no "oneness" tagline), is the sombre/obit ident. So, it would appear that the previous rumours of Kite being retained is untrue.

Correct and incorrect.

The forest ident is as you've decided, regions have the choice of kites if no other suitable ident is available.

Thanks for the info. It demonstrates perfectly how bonkers the new set is as they have publicly "withdrawn" the circles ident and have a perfectly suitable ident for obits which they feel is not as appropriate as people flying kites from a withdrawn set! Makes you legitimately question as to why there was a need for a speedy refresh if the BBC don't have any confidence in the new set. Anyway, once again, cheers.

I guess the answer as to whether a somber ident is signed off and ready to use, will be revealed into Panorama at 8.30 Monday. As neither Zumba or Swimmers will work into a doc about a massacre on a beach.

My bet is on Capes not Kites

Good call about Panorama. it most certainly will be interesting to see which ident they use into it. If they use a circle ident, then they may as well just bring them back into service and axe the new ones.

There's also an opportunity at 7:30pm to see what the English regions (or at least BBC London, BBC South East and the Southampton part of BBC South) use into non-news programming.

I may seize the opportunity.

Could they go old school and have a still if the logo whilst they announce it and end with the oneness sting?

First showing of Mountain Rescuers by BBC1 NE&C at 6?

It was similarly boring but it did have bright uniform colours and an adorable dog to divert attention. Much more News suitable too...

...well, given that the standard is the floor.

Just did a quick check round the regions, the regions who used this new ident other than NE & Cumbria were BBC One East and BBC One South West. Everyone else used the swimmers.
