There's something about that which seems to need music to tie it together to create an ident rather than all of the separate clips.

That's a better ident than the Oneness things we have, but that's only in comparison to the Oneness idents, as in itself it's actually not great. The concept, as others have mentioned, is better, but ultimately it's people messing around in front of a massive logo. I'm not sure whether I'm more thankful though that it's not like the Oneness idents, or more annoyed that it shows a lack of consistency from the off.
Speaking for consistency, I see the BBC One sting that appears before shows on iPlayer has reverted from the Christmas sting... to Capes. Well done everyone.

Design CSI critiques the Oneness idents - fair to say that it echoes the comments in earlier pages, and it's what I expected - ripping on the bad traits of the ident set, such as no thought and creativity and extremely poor production values.
Also noting that they have yet to show two idents, Mountain Rescue and Wheelchair Rugby Team.
A third, Forest/Trees, apparently lacks the Oneness slogan and contains no people at all, as described in the article.
I'm not sure if I'm to take the third ident mentioned at face value...while the other two are certainly confirmed for airing in the near future.

Thanks for taking one for the team.
On a whim, I decided to email Martin Lambie-Nairn at his new company, M L-N, and jokingly asked:
Obviously, I knew it was a stupid question and didn't expect a reply, but lo and behold, the man did...
Quote:
Hi Martin,
Is there a way you can possibly liaise to the BBC Creative team? The idents for both BBC One and BBC Two are simply appalling!
Kind regards,
Glenn Reuben

Hi Glenn,
I cannot remember if I responded to you re. your email about BBC 1 and BBC2 new dents.
Am currently in Brazil with limited email etc. But now am able to respond.
You ask if I have influence with the BBC design department. The simple answer is no. Even when I was creative director for brand at the BBC, I had no influence over the internal design department. That is why everything designed by me and my people was also produced by us.
However, the real answer to your question is is to be found elsewhere than amongst designers, internal or external.
On my departure from the BBC the Marketing people assumed responsibility for branding. Creativity became the servant of these people who held the budget and therefore the say so. Since that time the BBC has produces nothing of interest.
I still have not seen the work you refer to, but you are not the only person to contact me with the same comments. I can only assume that the same creative management holds sway and as long as it does the creative reputation, so hard won, will continue to disintegrate.
It is a shame, but creative leadership in the area of branding is in the hands of people who have budgets but absolutely no idea of how to judge or design great an effective work. Worst still they have no desire to listen.
However, these things come round again.
My experience is that one day someone with vision will wake up and realise that the systems and people who manage creativity in this area are not equipped to do so and changes will be made.
Maybe next time you may get a crack.
Regards
Martin

A quick edit with TiG's capture.

maybe the Forest image is the Obit ident and not including "Oneness"would make sense if that was the case. A neutral image of trees would suffice as the News ident too. Perhaps that is the plan.

Can someone put BBC One ness on this -
I think this would of been better, but still on the idea of what the BBC were perhaps looking for.
You could have one for each region.

Interesting read, especially the info about the decision to rebrand only being made known in mid-December. It clearly shows.

The internal announcement and the quiet rebrand just showed how short-sighted the whole idea is. It sounds like they're not proud of their concoction. Announcing it internally in December felt like they were trying to rush off the Oneness theme, and shoehorning it as much as possible.
