Those letters in places as suggested by Aaron would be orders of magnitude more creative than what we have now. Good idea.

Shame we were denied a montage like this back at the start of December

These idents weren't half bad looking back, although seeing capoeira which was one of the main launch ones would have been a shock.

The new ident is the dancer finish dancing and clap, I wish we could do that ourself... I do feel sorry for the people in these idents who have been badly let down.

I do like that idea aswell, and maybe there could do it in front of ballon expos which has the bbc one balloon in it Wink or some hippos Wink

No, that's just a longer version of V2.

One of the BBC1 Christmas 2017 idents, leaked early.

one thing you could say about the dancers is that they were well produced and looked polished, and a good few of them had pretty catchy tunes, for me i think acrobats was the best idents of the set, and the christmas (2003) idents with the children running around i look back at with warm nostalgia.

and of course, at least the rest of the pres in that era was consistent too.

i don't watch much tv these days, but this new look is looks so jarring, it really is bad.

i think the bbc has got itself in such a mess with it's branding, it really does need a "brand ambassador" or "brand steering group" because i think it's clear nobody seems have an overall view of it.

it does in need a complete 1997 style overhaul.

It seems to be mainly the idents that appear earlier in that montage, the less 'in your face' ones such as Capoeira and Acrobats, that I found more palatable, whereas others such as the Haka rugby players (missing from the montage as it had already been withdrawn) were rather less pleasant, Tap Dogs set my teeth on edge and Music Video was just plain tacky. I was delighted to see the back of them - a travesty that they lasted two weeks longer than the balloons.

Of course Music Video appeared around the time of Fame Academy, which wasn't a great period for BBC1. I agree some were grating, skateboard was one of the better later ones. Salsa seemed limited to day times at least in my eyes.

This is even more suitable as an ident than the current ones...

First time I saw that I thought "Oh no, they're having these rubbish idents on BBC2 as well now..."

True, though the logo switch at the end highlights how we got in this mess in the first place.

I do like the wrap around ribbon thing they're using on the Youtube stills though - had seen them on BBC1 clips but hadn't realised they were doing them for BBC2 too. Even with the new idents if they had them reduce in size (framing them in effect) and then the ribbon wrap around with the BBC One logo in one corner and the location of the ident (or something more useful like Now/Next) in the other they might just get away with it. Very easy to make a trailer end board from them too.

I think it says everything about the idents though that the BBC haven't uploaded them to Youtube.

P.S. I'm sure the BBC HD idents could be quite easily repurposed for BBC1 just by replacing the diamond with a circle or sphere effect (or even just morphing the diamond into an "o" at the end). To think these were created seven years ago for a channel many couldn't receive.

Even these early BBC HD efforts are far superior to what we're seeing now:
