Current Presentation - While its certainly creative.....Is it too creative? Can it be too creative? Is the goal of actual channel branding lost in the creativity? Can the collective obscurity drown out the message they are trying to get across? They are all so obscure you cant distinguish one channel creativity from another? Is there a samey-ness to all the obscurity? Of course they are different. But whenever I see the idents, it doesnt seem inspiring somehow or bringing any excitment its just oddity and strange-ness. Loved the previous channel idents (the Ch4 logo forming from other objects, loved the old BBC Balloons and even the circles era). Not getting this new stuff. I just think they are strange.
BBC One - Ehh (drab and odd)
Channel 4 - Huh? What the...? (just strange)
Channel 5 - Is that you Channel 4? (similar logos)

Interview with the new idents on BBC Points West this evening, he did suggest the Idents might only last a year. He also confirmed 2 Welsh idents have been filmed - probably the view of Clevedon and Avonmouth from the Welsh bank of the Severn!!! (joke, I hope)

I watched the interview with Parr through iPlayer - he's listed some of the locations being filmed:
London, North of England, Scotland and NI, to name a few.

He did admit - it was a huge challenge succeeding the hippos in the interview.

Instead of what we've ended up with, we could have had the 'one' letters seen in the photo above in famous places across the country. Simple, and cheap to make.

So far, it just seems to have been a huge failure. I wouldn't be surprised to see the BBC subtly reintroducing the 'circle' idents in a few months - maybe kites / helicopter / capes for news programmes, and before we know it, we either have all the circles back, or a mix of circles and oneness.

This could just be wishful thinking though... Embarassed

I always thought that was a great idea, ITV kinda threw it away and wasted it though

It was a Carlton idea which got lost in the merger.

Funnily enough we were on holiday in the US when C4 launched the random blocks, I read about the fuss in here
for almost two weeks, before we returned home. On returning home, I quite liked the idents. I could tell straight away they were fragments of the main original 1982 logo. And if some of you think you're obsessed by TV branding, my mother knitted me for Christmas 1982 a '4' logo jumper, in all the correct colours. She used
the giant logo on the front cover of the launch week's TV Times for the pattern.

Even the BBC logo is more prominent there than in the idents. And really do think a shot of Broadcasting House would be a quick and easy fix to the news ident problem.

The grammar should always be "God" (not "god").

Like Dolphins they're very intelligent. I imagine they can be taught to do this in no time Wink
