The hippos lasted 10 years!

Why does everyone keep singling out the Hippos? They weren't even the best of the last set of idents yet somehow in the public mind the Oneness idents have replaced the hippos... just the hippos

I think perhaps the hippos were the most memorable of all the 'circle' idents for the majority of people.

Also, how they managed to get hippos to swim in a circle like that, I'll never know... Wink Laughing

CGI - as laid out in the Points of View feature back in late October.

The thing is the hippos were the better of the lot, which doesn't say much for the rest. Again the concept was good but there got lazy and 09 edits didn't help. The thing is there been a lack of creativeness.... in the BBC for a good number of years. Its only been Redbee and those stings that have helped save it.

Whoosh...

The hippos were by far the most unusual, and therefore stuck out in the minds of Joe Public who didn't care about presentation. I'm sure there was more than one occasion, but there was a joke on Mock the Week where they were asked for "Things You Wouldn't Hear on Points of View," and Russell Howard says, "Dear BBC, how did you manage to get those hippos swimming in a circle" or something along those lines. None of the other idents - maybe the dogs - were significant enough, regardless how pleasant they were to look at.

Here's an interesting behind the scenes article on how the hippos ident was created.

For the love of god...

The grammar should always be "God" (not "god"). Wash your typing fingers with soap and water.

Like Dolphins they're very intelligent. I imagine they can be taught to do this in no time Wink

So, now we are 4 days into the New Year, is it officially 2 idents per month? Which means we will only ever see 2 idents during any one calendar month and not a variety of around 20? If so,this has to be the most bonkers rebrand decision ever undertaken in the history of BBCtv.

YET in January 2015 we only had two idents aswell, mind you there were pretty decent, plus we had the stings.

Interview with the new idents on BBC Points West this evening, he did suggest the Idents might only last a year. He also confirmed 2 Welsh idents have been filmed - probably the view of Clevedon and Avonmouth from the Welsh bank of the Severn!!! (joke, I hope)

I think those idents were refreshingly different. Would have been nice to have that set expanded throughout the year.

However, we did still get capes as a News ident.

Agree, never made sense how they kept going with the stings but not the idents. They could have expanded those quite easily.

P.S. The one and only thing I like about these idents is how it has encouraged a few long time lurkers to make their first posts - most the contributions from newbies in this thread have been quite welcome.
