Yes, we all go to Zumba classes and take dips in the freezing sea (with our wrinkly moobs dangling) in January!

Well they are both loosely connected with new year: Lots of people aim to get fit as a resolution, and a new years day swim is a fixture of many outdoor swimming clubs (or those who just fancy getting very cold and wet

Now I've realised that they do make a little more sense. But they still needed to me a lot better and have more variety

Not much to say really apart from that these are the **** idents I've ever seen. On any channel. I really hope they're only about for that awkward January period and that the BBC really doesn't think these are long term replacements of any kind.

Unfortunately, this is a long term replacement for the circles. Given the almost unanimous negative reception from the public, I hate to repeat myself, but I just don't see this set lasting much.

It's astonishingly pathetic. Aside from the already painfully obvious negatives, it's out of place for serious programming (if the Queen dies, it necessitates the use of Kite, creating inconsistency), and doesn't represent the other three nations.

The BBC look underwhelmed with this, as shown by the fact that this was a low-key refresh, and the Circles not even receiving a final compilation for a good send-off. Even continuity announcers hate it, as the BBC Wales announcer sarcastically shown on its first TX.

Why even bother rushing this with only two idents so far? With a rise of the TV Licence Fee based on inflation - you would have waited by keeping the circles, then spending a good deal of money to produce a decent set. While the Circles were slated for their cost - it worked out as value for money.

This piece of s***e ident set signifies how fearful the BBC are in spending money on branding. Ignore the anger from the government and the Daily Mail, the real test is in how it appeals to viewers. And frankly with the car crash of BBC ONE presentation left in the road, they've done a s**t job.

Assuming the "Exercise class" ident is the corporate trademarked American dance fitness class everyone says it is, using their choreography could be copyright infringement.

I have a sneaking suspicion that in an obit situation, somebody will have the sense not to use this rubbish. I'm sure the animated cubes that appear on the nations' clean feed could be used like the old "family ident", or a simple still BBC One logo on black.

Let's hope so- I'd be happy with any excuse to get it pulled!

They could always have mourners at a graveside crying for serious news / death.

Given the almost unanimous negative reception from the public,

Has there been ? Not a single person has mentioned them to me yet so far, don't take Twitter or the papers
was a barometer. The media love talking about the media, and imagine the public are similarly interested in all the mechanics, which they're not.

For most people, I doubt the idents have even registered yet to any great extent, they really do have a shed load of other priorities to concern them.

I know it's not completely related, but as cost has been discussed briefly, was it ever reported how much ITV spent on their 2013 rebrand.
I know it can't be compared as they changed everything, not just the look of a single channel, but would be interesting to know.

Look North filmed a similar event at an outdoor swimming pool on New Year's Day. I'm sure if somebody there has 10 minutes they could knock up a better ident from this footage.

If the Queen dies, they won't be using idents at all. The schedules will be cleared and they'll simulcast the news channel on BBC One.

Let's be honest, most of us could offer our services for free and come up with something better.

I've certainly seen some impressive mocks on this site that knock those new BBC One efforts out of the park.

So much for Oneness. "New BBC idents send divorce rates through the roof" - Daily Mail.

(if the Queen dies, it necessitates the use of Kite, creating inconsistency)

It'd also be a spoiler.
