If anything called for a France 2 style non CA ident, this it it.

That junction was completely unsuitable using that ident. 2 people drowned, introduced by people jumping around???

Seriously poor.

This sums up the major problem with launching a new look with only two idents, they couldn't really use the swimming ident with a bunch of people in water given the subject matter in EE, so what did they have left, the only other version with a bunch of randoms doing dance exercise badly out of sync with each other, Yeyy go BBC!

Totally agree. The BBC have never stooped as low. An absolute disgrace.

This.

It beggars belief that they've launched this look with just two idents. No regional diversity. No variation in tone or timbre. No obit-safe ident, necessitating a reversion to the previous set if the worst happens (and if 2017 is anything like last year, it won't be long).

Why not at least wait until there are sufficient idents available to facilitate sensible editorial decisions? Something does not stack up.

Could have been worse - they could have shown 'Sea Swimmers'. Wink

Which would have been distasteful considering the events of last night's EastEnders episode.

Also, if anything, these idents are horribly poor for serious programming. I don't think anyone wants to see man boobs in to the news only to see some depressing news headline on screen.

It goes as far as it is to show that they've only retained Kite for obits - showing that these idents have a personality problem.

I'm kind of amused (or perhaps bemused) about the thought process that must have gone into the selection of the version of the bathers ident for the news.

What must have been the thought process to pick the version where they show us their backsides ? Not that either version is appropriate but why is that one more appropriate for news than the other one ? Very Happy

Probably because 'Moobs at Ten' would have been too easy a gag...

Someone mentioned that they didn't think idents were needed in a Netflix world but surely they should use that when making up this "oneness" s***e. Surely they should have focused the idents on the fact that BBC is on TV and brings the family together as "one" to watch pure drama and high quality news.

I mean, who thought Gogglebox would be so popular so surely something inspired by that would be slightly better? They've already copied ITV (albeit badly) with this set.

Netflix slap their identity across the beginning of everything you watch - technically it's a frontcap rather than an ident, but they make sure the first thing you see when you select a programme is the Netflix logo. It's simple, but effective.

I really thought "oneness" was a "warm Xmassy thing". Little did I think it would turn into some sort of politically correct theme for BBC1 (rolleyes) idents. The idents really need to be canned now (and no, BBC1, we won't warm to them) as they are amateurish and have no meaning. The "globe, orbit, circle, ... symbol of the BBC since the 60s has been totally forgotten. The suits need to go bck to the W1A drawing board.... A child could do better Smile

Another logical disconnect that springs to mind is that these are groups of people 'one-ing' together to do something other than watch TV... which given the state of these idents may yet be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Never has a W1A segment been so relevant.

(And I've been to meetings which are exactly like this, even the subtle bickering between the consultants!)

I'm wondering what will happen when they go back to the regional announcements before the news tomorrow: This is BBC1 in the North West when they have a bunch of OAPs from Clevedon in Somerset on the bumper.....

That's the plan.

Even just grabbing the principal faces of each region and quickly shooting something with them in the morning would be a better way to introduce the news.

And if they really though Clevedon was suitable to introduce the news why not film a version without the people in - they might get away with a version with just the sea. After all that's pretty much how they did the news variants of the Christmas idents for years.
