When's the last time anything in 4:3 - or SD for that matter - was shown on BBC One?

Quite recently, yesterday (Saturday) at 7:30pm with Dad’s Army.

Assuming you mean before Dad's Army, World Cup Rewind earlier on Saturday.

In addition - though the whole programme wasn't in 4:3 - the older matches in Match of Their Day were in 4:3 a few hours ago.

Nice announcement from Duncan into Dad’s Army saying when this classic episode of Dad’s Army was first shown on BBC One, it’s the U-boat one, and it’s the first time Dad’s Army has been on BBC One since 2004!

Does the playout chain for BBC One still include the correct WSS flags, I wonder, or does everyone just get it in 12P16?

I don't think Line 23 signalling has been used internally since HD became the master network (as Line 23 is 625/50 specific so not relevant for an HD up conversion) - but AFDs are still in use I think. (It may be inserted at the HD->SD downconversion stage to trigger the DSat 12F12 ARCs for 4:3 shows)

(SD network shows have round tripped SD->HD->SD by the time they reach SD viewers)

There was a repeat run of The Vicar of Dibley a couple of years ago.

Also the older Wallace & Gromit's, whenever they get a repeat around christmas, are still in 4:3.

A Terry & June was in 4:3 when she died.

I think the last new 4:3 programme on BBC One was Parkinson (the studio had widescreen cameras but were 4:3 switchable, it was a stylistic preference)

BBC Four aired a new black and white show, Jazz 625, last year which was repeated on Friday, the first they claim since the 70s. It was in widescreen though and just looked really odd.

The only time we tend to see classic sitcoms is primetime is when someone dies or it’s an anniversary like VE Day.

Shouldn’t that have been Jazz 1080?

I saw it last year, it was a near live OB from the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. I thought the b/w 16:9 HD pictures looked really classy. Nice 👌
