I'm not one for fanning flames or speculation, but a Facebook group I'm a member of had the following posted to it by a genuine BBC Creative employee...

Quote:
Hi folks,

I am an Assistant Producer at BBC Creative (currently WFH) and I am looking for contributions for our latest project for BBC One.

Given the current government guidance to stay at home, it's inspirations to see so many people keeping in contact during this time.

Are you part of a group who are continuing their usual activities via online tools and social platforms? Ie.. has your music, ballet, knitting class etc gone online? If so, it would be great to hear from you!

So maybe there is something to this rumour?

They are going to keep Oneness and its just going to be videos of people filming themselves doing an activity at home or on a video call, and half way through it they'll stop and stare at the camera for a few seconds, then get back to what they were doing.

All they need is for somebody to shout "you need to go on mute" during the video call, and they've got a life-like situation right there.

Can you respond to this BBC Creative person and tell them the idea sounds like a home version of Oneness and it sounds terrible and they should reconsider? Laughing

Liking these a lot already... here's hoping

The location in the third ident was also featured in the 2008 BBC News countdown sequence.

I was a bit surprised how many people thought it was CGI - all the 2s were model-based so I always assumed the globe was too.

More importantly though, where the hell is that footage from? Never seen it before, and I’m assuming the logo printed on a plastic disc is just there to demonstrate what it would look like.

I’ll admit I thought it was CGI!

As mentioned previously, most of Carlton's 1999 idents were model shots with added effects, and yet most people think they're entirely CGI.

The same fibreglass heart was used in many of the idents, just recoloured in post production.

Me too.... mind blown there. I'm guessing there was still CG enhancement though.

In these days of everything being CGI you almost forget this stuff was done with models at one time. 1991 computers probably weren't up to generating something like that, not on a BBC budget anyway. We had this same discussion in the EastEnders thread about the 1993 titles only a couple of weeks back...

I'm going to hold my hands up, I thought it was all computer generated as a kid, and I don't think I've given it much thought since.
Such amazing craftsmanship and post production. It puts many recent brands to shame.

It probably didn’t help everyone calling it the ‘virtual globe’, which I always took to mean it was computer generated.

Or did people mean it’s ‘not quite a globe’? I’m really not sure about anything now.

Next I’ll find out that Oneness was shot by a highly regarded, award-winning photographer, and not just made by the work-experience kid when he’d run out of photocopying to do.
