At the 19:30 junction on HD it said to turn to SD to see your local programme but SD is showing the exact same programme. Is anyone else receiving an episode of Critical Incident on their region?

A number of regions are showing various episodes of Canal Boat Diaries - all of which will then be shown on BBC4 later this week - but not all of them, hence Critical Incident as a filler for those regions that aren't.

The other day it was going to be Canal Boat Diaries at 7pm in those regions, opting out of The One Show, and Question Time at 7.30, but seemingly there's been various discussions about who does what when, so there's no Question Time and it's reverted back to the original schedule.

Next Monday a few regions are opting out of The One Show for Yorkshire Walks.

I think I spotted a hot air balloon too.

They couldn't have thought of that before the first three episodes aired?

That's except for viewers in Wales.

They could have put the 1997 music on it!

There's scope to returning to the idea of a balloon flying over the UK, without bringing back the 1997 globe interpretation - make it a nice deep red or a new pattern(s).

There's something serene, majestical and uplifting about a hot air balloon surveying an otherwise ordinary scene, very appropriate for a TV channel identity and unique to BBC One.

It would also lead to imaginative ideas for the surrounding presentation.

And how good does Night Kayakers look with these additions? The ident has been brought to life. Brekkie made a great point about how many of these Dullness idents could be improved with some extra elements added to them. It’s like the latter days of the balloon globe when they just added it electronically to filmed sequences. Just ordinary film without the balloon but the way the balloon was added created great idents. If only BBC1 had an actual logo that could be added to the Oneness idents. It’d make a big difference.

Obviously this latest tweak is for the specific purpose of His Dark Materials.

However, I hope the BBC aren't going to set about tweaking these One-ness idents in the hope that "refreshing" them will be adequate enough for the channel and it will keep them going for a few more years. BBC One desperately needs a complete overhaul.

Not entirely similar but the way in which they edited the circle idents horribly in 2009 was an awful decision but clearly it was their way of keeping things "fresh" and those idents on air for a further 7 years. Heaven forbid we're stuck with One-ness for years stretching ahead - though I really wouldn't be surprised if we are.

Worth noting the ident was now Night Kayakers, Trollesund and not Killyleagh!
