I'm surprised that barcode hasn't been along yet to point out that Scotland produced Hogmanay idents in the 90s/00s.
To date, the only time we have seen a New Year ident for all the nations was the fireworks variant of the infamous red curtain idents in 2012.
I remember when Christmas presentation was used only from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day (or any “in lieu” bank holidays that followed). A few days maximum. I don’t think the BBC even used any special pres at New Year.

There were stings - if not idents - for the Millennium New Year.
And I think you could argue that this is New Year pres, albeit debuting in the early hours of the new year.

There were both for Millenium (2000 Today had a series of idents throughout, BBC One had the balloon by the dome and the Dandelion clock with roman numerals sting appeared a lot)

At the time I wasn't a massive fan of the 'Love 20__' branding used for a couple of years but looking back now it's so lively, well crafted and imaginative to what we have on screen currently.
I've said before about my love of the New Year 2015 campaign...
How did we have these beautifully animated creations for just a few weeks and have had oneness for three years?

Absolutely loved this. So much potential for it to have been a long term campaign.

I was discounting those for two reasons. 2000 Today was introduced with a regular ident (followed by a dandelion sting). If there was a New Year ident you would have thought that would be when it would be used.
The balloon over the Dome ident became part of the regular rotation rather than just being for the new year period.

Is that a mock?
Nope, it’s not a mock. This thing aired on BBC One Northern Ireland right after BBC Newsline

The animated background was pretty, but everything else about it looked poor. It's a shame they have a lovely animated image like that but it doesn't actually get used for anything, except for this, which I imagine was created hastily due to the programme being filmed within the last 24 hours and being part of a high profile ongoing news story in NI. If they couldn't use their standard branding to show something like this then surely that must show them how ineffective and unsuitable the current branding is?

I remember when those aired posting that it was a nice campaign but maybe a little quiet and unambitious to be the full time flagship channel presentation package - an opinion that seems absolutely laughable now.
It was a lovely concept and a great play/evolution on the circles theme that definitely should have been expanded on, with the benefit of hindsight. Animated circles on One and curves on Two would have sat together very nicely.
If only.
