Just out of interest, why doesn’t BBC One and Two have DOGs?

In the early days of digital, they had them, but due to excessive complaints, they were removed. BBC Two continued to show a DOG during the Learning Zone until that was axed, most likely for students to know that the Learning Zone is on BBC Two if they want to record it themselves. BBC One HD used to use a DOG in about 2010, but that was also removed due to excessive complaints. The BBC feels that the channels are so well established that they don’t need DOGs. They do have dogs though! Wink

The Learning Zone ended up as being totally unique branding wise because it rebranded in 1997 with everything else and then didn't change when BBC Two changed its look in 2001 and 2007. It ultimately ended up being the last bastion of the 1997 look, still running and looking good in 2015 when the service was sadly eventually scrapped.

And in any event, anybody who knew about the Learning Zone didn't need a DOG on the broadcast to tell them; you could order a pretty guide to the programming on the Zone from the BBC directly as a mailshot because there wasn't enough room in TV guides to list it all (this was in the days before we had on screen EPGs).

Just out of curiosity, as we are on the subject of The Learning Zone, what exactly was BBC Two Night School?

The DOG was there to signal that the recording came off air and try and prevent people from selling the broadcasts to other institutions I tthink. Bear in mind that a complete set of videos at the time could have cost a reasonable amount.

The learning zone was amazing with the way nobody really touched it from 1997 until 2015, with just updated graphics being used rather than completely fresh ones. Even the menu template stayed the same. I kind of miss it.

A trailer for a trailer? They seem to promote the next Sunday 9pm series as soon as the previous one starts.

There was a mistake on the ECP out of Escape to the Perfect Town: it said EastEnders was tonight at 8,00 and not 8.00 or 8:00

I suspect they're both in reference to the Christmas ident, but one can hope.

I hope it's not similar to last year's bland John Lewis-esque campaign, though I am not holding my breath on the basis of these castings.

One-ness has been terrible for BBC One generally but it's particularly exemplified by the unspired Christmas idents it has generated during its (too long) life span.

I think it’s pretty likely it’ll be a John Lewis style film first, and an ident second as an afterthought. It’s all about promo than presentation these days.
