That would make sense, surely something sourced from 1080 wouldn't look that poor on a cinema screen. Plenty of films are mastered and/or projected in 2k, which isn't much different resolution wise, after all.
Saw a trailer for BBC1's The Capture last night at the cinema. Never seen a BBC ad at the cinema before, perhaps I don't go to the cinema enough!?
Exactly the same as the trailer that they show on TV, noticeably poor quality (sandwiched between two ads that sparkled in native 4k)
I wonder what process was used to get it from 1080 25p to 'digital cinema'?
It may be that the original trail was in 576i25. BBC Creative still make BBC One and Two trails in SD I believe, or did when I last bothered to look at one critically on an HD channel.
Umm. I saw the same trailer on TV on Monday, and TBH it looked pretty soft there too, though to be fair it was full of deliberate CCTV style impairments, (being a drama about CCTV impairments 😎)
That rather bizarre downscaled / upscaled trail situation between BBC Creative and network channel playout has been resolved for around a couple of years now. Network trails are now delivered and played out in HD.
Local trails in NI have been produced and played out in HD on BBC ONE NI HD for almost 7 years.

As he says #titles, more likely a title sequence for a new programme.

Yeah, seems like it's got something to do with Lewis Capaldi...
Don't get most of your hopes up though, anything red and relating to BBC might not be what it seems.

Would that really warrant the "something exciting" comments?
