Is it natural at 9:15 for BBC Breakfast to link to the next programme rather than airing an ident between?

Yes, into those consumer programmes it's fairly common.

Has anyone mentioned the Oneness stings??

I've heard rumours they're thinking of doing the same for all programmes, not fair to inflict pain on licence fee' payers Wink

There is still time to save face, say it was just a very bad 'New Year' promo, and go back to 'Circles', or what Pip2 suggested in the Gallery.

I like Martin Parr, and his style of documentary photography. If you want to commission someone to do some portraits of modern Britain, he's your man.

But that kind of photography really doesn't lend itself introducing programmes on a flagship TV channel. Not when you've only got four clips to go around for the 20-odd programmes (of a variety of genres and styles) needing introduced each day. Not when the equivalents on other channels has had tons of post-production thrown at it, and you're just doing it hand-held with natural sound.

I think I'll be generous and call this a mis-step from BBC Creative. I hope they take the public's reaction on board.

2 oneness (Generic and Swimmer) stings have aired after HUtH and the Sherlock promo in Network.
It made sense to air Swimmer into Wanted Down Under. Version 2, IIRC.

Announcement over swimmer's ident at 8:30 " Throughout 2017 we will be celebrating the moments that unite us"

Just a thought, if this is the case, and if, as I read somewhere, there are 24 idents or scenarios, then maybe the idea is to have two of them per month, culminating in the Christmas idents in December?

If so, then roll on 2018...

Around 4 years ago whilst on holiday, I though of an idea that BBC 1 could follow for a new symbol which was inspired by the Swiss tv idents focusing on the numeral which was shot in various locations in the confederation. Maybe the BBC should go Swiss and take something similar on.

The red fits in well with BBC one as well, with it being the primary colour of the channel for just about 20 years now.

I suppose that couldn't be worse than the yellow/blue boxes that ITV1 littered the countryside . . . . which they then had to pick up . . .

I personally wouldn't read too much into them saying '24 are going to be shot over the year', as past experience suggests they usually just pick any arbitrary number out of thin air for the press release. I seem to recall when the original Rhythm ones launched we were being told there'd be 8 more by the summer and I'm not even sure if they hit an additional 8 over the following 4 years in the end.

Realistically it's pretty unlikely they'd risk backing down on the current set and going back to any older ones. As they're so desperately keen to push their inhouse BBC Creative department as a serious competitor to 4Creative whilst saving heaps of money at the same time, it'd be reputational suicide for them to admit their first major inhouse branding job is a bit of a flop. However on the plus side, if they've not even filmed the others yet there is plenty of scope for the production standards to improve over time, allowing them to quietly take into account feedback without admitting any defeat. The actual underlying concept, whilst not particularly original, is at least a sound concept, it's just the actual execution that needs work. BBC Creative has already produced plenty of well executed trailers as I understand it, so they are clearly capable of it.
