I actually think, the more I think about it, that this set is just an interim set before a proper refresh follows later in the year. Could we be celebrating the return of 2016's Christmas package come December just so we can enjoy a quality ident set again? I predict that a brand new pres package for both BBC1 and BBC2 will launch in October! Oneness is hopefully an experiment to take us to the Autumn.

The trouble with the previous idents was that they cost the earth and therefore BBC One felt obilged to keep them.
However, we now have some cheap idents and although they aren't great they are acceptably disposable this time.
To me, I'd stab a guess that this is a temporary look...and it sounds like the swimmers ident will be replaced with a 6 nations ident in Feb. The swimmers is a "New Year" ident. Taking a dip in a cold ocean is tradition for some.
The new idents are very poor - but my gast would be flubbered if there is not a complete revamp in 2018.

Yep - Totally agree. Sick of looking at them already actually. I can't understand how they got the Christmas Day Idents so right and these two are so very plain and drab.
I have to agree with what been said almost unanimously in this thread so far ... BBC One's new "idents" are diabolically terrible. Whoever signed off this utterly mindless drivel as acceptable for broadcast on any TV channel, let alone the nation's premier TV channel, need to be handed their P45 and permanently banished from working in any part of the broadcasting industry ever again!

And the more people hate them, you just know that the person that commissioned them will stick their heals in the mud and refuse to drop them.
