I think the Oneness idents are going to be around for quite a while longer.
Dare I say it on here..... but they've SLIGHTLY grown on me. Only slightly, I hasten to add.
Also, I noticed last night, during the 10:30pm regional news opt-out, that the background ident montage on BBC One HD has now been updated- steel drums, surfers, the new dancer one and sausage dogs.

It’s been said many times, but the mistakes the BBC made were to launch the new look with only two idents, and these were probably the weakest/worst of the lot. The quality/suitability of the more recently introduced idents is somewhat better. Had they launched with the strongest ones rather than the weakest ones there may have been less of an outcry.

Completely agree with you there. It did seem to be a somewhat rushed launch in January 2017 and, like you say, why on earth did they decide to launch with only 2 idents? Compare with the respective launches of the Balloon idents, Rhythm and Movement and the Circles, all of which started out with multiple variations from the get-go.
All of those packages also had the advantage of being better than what we have now.
In a world where the word "aspirational" is key, where brands pretend to be your friend and at the same time play on your insecurities, there is something very BBC about BBC One having incredibly plain idents featuring people who are clearly just everyman and woman. The idents have grown on me a little on that basis, but the execution isn't great. I think they've realised that, because any new ones have had a bit of life in them.
Ultimately though, the biggest problem with being basic is that they date incredibly quickly.
There's also a slight issue with the likes of "some random, Barnet" being used as a caption for the nations.
Was surprised to see this shot pop up on Strictly last night:
Interesting to see the studio shot the opposite way round to normal (Tess is standing at the top of the balcony behind the orchestra, and you can see the backstage area Claudia uses in the top righthand corner). Had assumed the area to the rear of where Tess is standing would be much more sparse as they'd fit more cameras etc in there, although I expected it to be dressed to a limited extent for when they use a steadicam shot in some dances that spins 360 around the dancefloor. Even got a mirrored version of the big screen behind the orchestra at the opposite end of the studio, which only the studio audience will ever see!
I am sure something similar has been discussed before, but yesterday I saw yet another example of the "oneness" diatribe being replaced as it was inappropriate.

It is a 360 enclosed set really. I believe it's a screen that works in sequence with the side screen animations. They've had the opposite end dressed up for a good few years now. Back to the TVC days I think.

Honestly, good on Network for actually showing a serious ident at this time.
But I wonder, if the Queen's death was announced, how would they introduce the running news bulletins? Would they use that same ident but in monochrome or would they use a BBC logo instead like they did with Diana's death back in 1997?
