Technically there's 4 as there's 2 variants of each. Not that it matters, they're all as bad.

Just two idents, with 2 versions for Exercise and 3 for Bathers. It's crap.

The feeling of disappointment I get with these is the same that I felt when Channel 5's beautiful last colourful idents were replaced with the 'five' people idents in 2002 and still broadcasters don't learn.

Would be even worse if there was a tragic swimming-related story. Even worse if there was a tragic excerxise class story too- then they couldn't use ANY ident. Not that either of them are suitable for sombre news stories anyway.

If anything this "oneness" crap would surely have worked better as "twogetherness" on BBC2? I really hope this is not a sign of things to come. I'm starting to think the news channel graphics (which I've always thought of as pretty dull) are some of the BBC's best design.

If BBC One is serious about Oneness, why do they insist on having the Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland tags on the nations' idents? Surely that just highlights that there isn't one-ness.

Thankfully we had 10 years of no kite, cycling, forest or helicopter-related disasters.

Given that there are / will be apparently 20-24 of these things, they're not drip-feeding 1 or 2 a month throughout 2017, are they? (Going on the notion that this is a year long project)

At least they had multiple idents to use in case one seemed inappropriate... not just two.

Exactly - the 90s set and the balloon era were fantastic, and circles wasn't too bad either although the surrounding presentation may have been lacking. In hindsight even the Rhythm and Movement idents were well produced and had a strong visual identity and distinctive soundtrack - the main reason we hated them was because of what they replaced and the **** we were spun about the globe, on which we all live, not being "inclusive" enough.

Well said, Brekkie. I agree completely. I grew up with the 1991-97 ident (although I was alive during the later COW days, I don't really remember it that well) and thought it was mesmerizing at the time. Then the Balloons came along and completely blew me away. In all honesty, I never detested the Dancers or Circles - I actually quite liked both sets and the music was the highlight for me. But today we have most certainly reached a new low. I'd rather they had just kept the Circles for another 5 years than replace them with this crap.

I'm of the same era and was thinking today how the 1991 relaunch is probably one of my earliest TV memories - certainly presentation wise at least. I remember the globe being opened by Ratz and being amazed that BBC2 had more than one ident. Indeed the 1991 relaunch is probably a reason why many of us here are in our early 30s.

It was bad enough BBC2 had been reduced to using 25 year old idents but this is beyond a joke. It makes it even worse they've thought it was acceptable to launch with just two variations and that they thought one of these was acceptable to introduce the news. They've been wise enough to include news idents within most of the recent Christmas packages so even if it was as dull as a squiggle on a plain red background you'd think they'd opt for that over anything else.

What's worse is you can also tell that the continuity announcers hate it (BBC Wales didn't hide their distain for it), and also the BBC itself isn't very proud. Both last sets had pre-publicity about them, and even had they opted to keep these quiet so they debuted on air you'd have expected much more info to appear today about them.

The most frustrating thing is there is just no debate about them - they're just crap and that's about it and we've had to find a dozen different ways to try and say that here today. At least if they divided opinion they would arguably be doing something right - getting noticed at the very least.
