Steve, yes that was Ashleigh Whitfield- this morning's announcer who even wished you a Merry Christmas mid the breakdown. We're in the chair to introduce breakfast live every morning, even when it doesn't need introducing!
So, Mr N, why on BBC One do the Breakfast presenters after the anno, stare blankly for a couple of seconds or so?
Is it to allow the news channel planet to align correctly with the BBC One mothership before the presenters speak?
Cheers, and Happy Christmas.

I would assume its a timing thing and I doubt many people really notice (or care).

Presumably News does its own thing whether or not BBC One has opted in, and were One to crash into an intro it would be One's problem and not for News to try and rectify.
The long stare into the camera seems far more elongated when One is simulcasting than when it is a News only broadcast.
“There needs to be an appropriate level of nerves… it’s a national moment,” says Phil Vowels, who will be introducing the Queen’s speech on Christmas Day.
The continuity announcer has narrated the nation’s Christmas on BBC One 10 times, since starting at the corporation in 1997.
“You need to be very mindful that you have a much bigger audience over Christmas Day.”
Unlike most mid-afternoons, families will be sitting down and watching the television together.
“In terms of what we say on air - we try and reflect that and ask, ‘have you opened all your presents yet?’ Or ‘is uncle so-and-so asleep in the chair?’”
As Phil writes all the links to programmes himself, he will already know the explosive ending to the EastEnders Christmas special. But when asked what happens between Max Branning and Phil Mitchell, his lips are sealed.
“It’s an early present in that way, but I can’t be bribed. I have to be above all that.”
Can't be very often the BBC One schedule is delayed by a late running programme after midnight! Midnight Mass starting a minute or so early and ending a good five minutes late.
Meldrum Home Page. They have a section where people upload stuff - the Private Parts.
I'm trying to look for said file and the site is baffling. Am I even meant to be on there?

FYI, you either need to be a member or be invited: http://pp.meldrum.co.uk ( it has been postage on here many many many times before, there is even a thread on the media website section) There has been a drive to invite new members etc the site has many pieces of pres, including TV music and ceefax tracks but there plenty of other gems including docs, slides etc.
It wouldn't be the xmas spirit if did not suggest I could invite people. You would need to PM an email address, and be on your best havour over there and be genuinely interested in television presentation
